Well done!

The biggest mistake some people make when trying to drybrush highlights on a red model is to use pinks, or gradually add white, which only makes it chalky.  Orange is better, but check out the other suggestions here for a red model:

Dan, that was a great video with some excellent ideas. I have always thought of a game, were planet surveyors or colonist trigger a very old robotic defense system!

That's a blast from the past Dan.
Off course you should , you can easily make them biped, triped or quadruped or even more .. the feet could be readily stuck pieces of card on the base ( no need to fuss sticking them to the
wire , just drill a hole in them & glue wire )

1mm drill bit + paper clip wire bent to desire shape ( you can also make a jig out of nail & wood so as to have a consistent bend )

Bend them into long Zee like shapes ( chicken legs )  or whatever tickles your fancy.

Welcome Dan,
You definitely should.
You can also use thin hair pins ( the black ones) to add
to the paperclip thickness / shape. You can affix them with wound thin
Copper wire ( e.g. from an opened 4mm cooker type wire ).
Then a small drop of CA. Different sizes of lead free solder wire can also be used.

Indeed it is doodler, just keep in mind that doing them in 18mm is way smaller but do able ( look up my scratchbuilt ork meks on my blog).
