Walrus riders?
« on: 13 June 2020, 10:30:23 PM »
Just seen on OTT weekender that TTcombat are bringing out halfling shield maidens riding on Walruses:

This is something that I did not know that I needed.  I also did not know that I would need it this bad!!

"Only the bravest Shield Maidens will attempt to tame one, but once they do, the bond they share is unlike any other."

Truer words were never spoken.

I know I shouldn't question creative genius, but why would anyone want to ride a walrus in the first place? You can probably walk faster than a walrus. The ride has got to be pretty bumpy, too, the way they hunch forward. I'm sure they're good swimmers, but those shield maidens don't look  all that much like they are the lost bastard daughters of Atlantean kings, giving them the ability to breath underwater.

Brilliant paint job, and perplexingly clever sculpting.

The real question is why would you not want to ride a walrus!

They are halflings. Maybe they work on the principle that you either ride it or eat it?

But you wouldn't dare say that to a halfling shield-maiden....

not if you wanted to keep your kneecaps anyway

This is why I can never get caught up in my painting.

And I can't even justify them other than I want them!

A walrus can, over short distances, move quite fast - about the same speed as someone can run which is probably faster than a short arse hobbit/halfling can run.  But why a walrus??????  Why not?

Scare tactics, pure and simple.

Facing a charge from a halfling on a pony or sheep isnt all that scary, but a walrus? Thats a lot of tusk and blubber coming your way!

I'm maybe over thinking this, but isn't the Shire/ Moot/ wherever... well...landlocked?

What next, Swiss submariners, Eskimo Kangarooists?

They definitely love going to Grey Havens on holiday to have drinks on the beach and ogle the elves.  Some have settled there and opened up Chippies.
