Dothraki hooves Project completed
« on: June 23, 2020, 06:34:15 PM »
12 weeks of working from home afforded the opportunity to paint up some Dolthraki horsemen.  Its been a slow process...

First up, the "heavy" cavalry ( heavy is a relative term here)

The second unit- these are medium cavalry
and the first figure for the horse archers- I was experimenting with the flesh tone for the bowman: not a sucess

Good work, always nice to see more Dothraki

Would you mind taking a photo with a ruler, or measuring (from base of hooves to top of the horses back/riders eyeline)?

I like the sculpts...could live with the weapon interpretation, but am wary of the size ...will they look like they are on plough horses next to my Gripping Beast Arab Light Cavalry...?

 :)

from the hooves to the top of the riders head they are 52-54mm high. They are a lot bigger than most historical cavalry

Bugger....lovely work on your part, but like you said, way too big to justify adding them to my existing figures...have managed to squeeze some of the foot figures into a wider force, but the mounted are too much of a stretch.

All the same, appreciate your work, and will follow with interest

Great work.  Will you be adding the kalesi to inspire them (or provide fire support)?

Easy on the steroids!

Excellent work George  :-* :-* :-*

The work on the skin tones of both the Dothraki and horse flesh is lovely. You're style reminds me very much of El Mercenario, which is indeed a compliment mon ami  8)

Yeah, it's really inspiring stuff. I'm going to have a go to tryand to do something similar to El Mercenario to see if I can speed up my painting!  :)

This could be an interesting way of doing horses, heavy oil washes and then wiped away the oil using a q-tip( ear bud) to create contrasts
