Bears Head Minis Barbarian and Tiger.
« on: 26 June 2020, 11:22:13 AM »
I’ve just added a ferocious Tiger and a fantasy Barbarian to my Bears Head Miniatures range.
Inspired by fantasy adventures from the 80s, adventure in retro style with mullets and unlikely animal companions.

Nice tigger. You have a real talent for sculpting realistic and attractively posed animals.

I’ve got your Highland coos in my prep for painting queue. It would be be great to have some more dogs by you too. I’m mainly talking about the historical hunting, fighting and guardian breeds. Is it worth holding my breath or not?  ;)

I love sculpting animals and I’m definitely open to suggestions for what to sculpt next.
Any particular breed, so I can google the pics?

Anatolian Shepherd, Cane Corso, Deerhound, Dogue de Bordeaux. Any of these take your fancy?

Both those figures have a very Frazetta-esque look to them. Especially the tiger. Great stuff!

Do a polar bear chariot!

Once you've done the dogs and the chariot a large /giant/dire European badger would make a great war beast for my gnomes. :)

Not to derail the thread, but the original rendition on Frazetta's The Silver Warrior was a Dragontooth set from '78 (which I once owned, but foolishly gave to a girl in the early 80s). So rare I can't even find any pictures of it, fully assembled.

At close to the same time (but slightly later, iirc) is the Ral Partha version. Also a very lovely figure. Rare and hard to find.

I've been meaning to try and scratchbuild one, but if some clearly talented sculptor were to set his mind (and tools) to the task, I would jump on one (or three) of them. (hint, hint)

Ideally with a sled more like the Dragontooth version.

What scale does the barbarian come out?  Compared with foundry or frostgrave for example.

I’ll have to Kickstart the metal casting of my recent miniatures. There’s a lot of extra costs with metal casting that I have to outsource.
