Warmachine and Ral Partha connection?
« on: August 03, 2020, 10:27:18 AM »
Whilst having a look on the Ral Partha UK site I noticed this thing. Looks awfuly similar to Warmachines warjacks. Is it a similar sculptor or merely a stylistic limitation of working in metal ?

It's a metal version of a Mage Knight steam golem. Those actually predate Warmachine by a couple of years, although not that much earlier.

Wizkids used quite a lot of Ral Partha models for their plastics and the metals can still be bought from Ral Partha. Which is great as a lot of the sculpts were excellent.

Oh no I get that, what I'm saying though is the aesthetic similarities down to a specific sculptor or merely working in metal ?

Well, I guess there aren't that many different ways you can do a steam/clockwork golem that looks suitably robust for battle. Also, as with many games from the early 2000s, I think they channeled some of the WoW aesthetics.

The initial Warmachine figures were sculpted by Mike McVey, if I am not mistaken, but I don't know for sure who sculpted the golems for MK - Jeff Wilhelm, maybe, but I cannot confirm it right now. Tim Prow also did some sculpts for the range, IIRC.

Well, it looks so similar, when I found one on the racks in a store I frequent it got converted into a Talon for my Mercs.
