Help needed identifying Heroics 1/300 AFV's
« on: September 02, 2020, 02:25:48 PM »
Hi - I've been given a bunch of mainly Ros and Heroics AFV's and have spent many a happy hour trying to identify them. They are all 1980's give or take 20 years and range through, Russian, British, American and German vehicles and tanks.
There are 3 that I can't identify and I wondered if anyone might be able to help. They all have some engraving on the bottom of the vehicle and that's helped with some of the others but I just can't make out anything constructive on these ones.

I think this might be a Russian BRDM but it doesn't look quite right and I can't find one that carried 4 missiles.

I'm guessing American but really I've no idea, not even sure if these are AA missiles or not.

This looks like the Russian SP guns but not enough?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Thanks Digits, I'd only seen pictures with 3 Swatters on a BRDM but just had another search and found a pic with 4 on it although most only show 3. so that's 1 down and 2 to go.
Cheers

Middle one is the West German Raketenjagdpanzer, 1 or 2 depends on the missile. I am unsure of which from the pictures. This was the missile version of the Kanonenjagdpanzer. It only had a 90mm main gun and the Raketenjagdpanzers were either cannon armed ones re-purposed or maybe purpose built.

The last one is hard to say as it is very dark but the Soviets had both 122mm and 152mm armoured self propelled artillery the same as the US and it could be either of them or possible the US 155. Check for pics of all on Google and compare number of road wheels, style of road wheels and other details like engine grills, driver's position and numbers of periscopes.

The BRDM-1s also had the missiles (can't remember the version) under an armoured plate. The plate stayed above the missiles when they were "extended" above the hull in order to fire and retracted and sealed the hull top when retracted.

The top one is the 2P32 - BRDM-1 with AT-2 'Swatter'.  It had four missiles ready to fire and no top plate (that only came later with the 9P110 version, carrying 6 AT-3 'Sagger' missiles).  The version with 3 missiles was the earlier 2P27 with AT-1 'Snapper'.

As Madman says, the middle one is a Raketenjagdpanzer 1 or 2.

The bottom one is an M109A1 (or later version) SP 155mm.

Hi, I think the Raketenpanzer is the variant armed with the SS11 missile. They were later upgraded to carry the Euromissile HOT system.

Yes, Raketenjagdpanzer 1 or 2.  The HOT version was Raketenjagdpanzer Jaguar 1 and the TOW version was Raketenjagdpanzer Jaguar 2.

The Raketenjagdpanzer 1 was based on the Hotchkiss Schuetzenpanzer Lang 12-3 chassis.

The Raketenjagdpanzer 2 was based on the chassis developed for the Kanonenjagdpanzer and Marder.  These were visually identical to the Raketenjagdpanzer 1.

Jaguar 1 was converted from obsolete Raketenzjagdpanzer 2 hulls.

Jaguar 2 was converted from obsolete Kanonenjagdpanzer hulls.

Thanks a lot for this, much appreciated.

The 2nd one has RH?ETE on the underside of the model as best as I could see but it meant nothing and I wasn't sure of the characters, so it confirms the id of the West German Raketenjagdpanzer.

the 3rd one is not the Russian 122 or 155mm I already have them, but having checked I'm sure it's the US 155mm version.

Thanks again for the info.
Cheers
