Barbarians could use orc stats.

Interesting thought.

So, having seen the suggestion about using Frostgrave Soldiers, here is a Town Militia for the minimum points value.

Human Captain
Town Guard:
Two ranks of Spears
Two ranks of Archers
Five ranks of Militia

The plan is to use Oathmark Human spear arms and possibly Oathmark Dwarf shields.

Great idea!

However when you say "soldiers" do you mean the old Frostgrave Soldiers Box or the newer ones (Knights and Specialists)?

I ask because I found that the soldiers of the old set are a tad smaller than the newer ones.

I mean the original ones (except for the Champion).

I had not noticed the difference, saying that I seem to have used all my stock, so I will add a box to my next North Star order.

Yes, there definitely is such a thing as "a North Star order" now  lol

I was quite happy when I found out that the German company Miniaturicum carries the North Star products in Germany. Before that the postage costs were horrendous  for me  ;)

Here is a comparison shot.

An Elf mini-army.

An all Elf Ranger force.

The box set contains six ranks of figures, so by dropping one rank of Rangers and the few stragglers, an alternative force can be built by adding one rank of Pathguard and a Level One Spellcaster.

The Gnoll mini army is still waiting for two ranks of Gnoll Soldiers.

So the first Gnoll was painted on the 9th of September (having been assembled shortly after the box set was released).

Here is the first painted Linebreaker, and the second painted Gnoll (so that is 45 days per figure).

So, my Gnoll Mini-army is forty figures, two are painted so that is 38 figures so the mini army should be painted in 1,710 days (or about four and a half years).

Here is a view of the added armour.

And the entire painted army (so far).

Thanks.

Yes, the Undead will be another distraction (the Gnolls are having to compete with some FireForge medieval for Oathmark painting time at the moment).

So while I wait for the Undead to start scraping on the door, some developing details of the human kingdoms of my currently unnamed world.

The main armies are the three Northern Kingdoms.

All three have distinctive kit and style.

Kingdom One
Kingdom one has extensive grass lands and so can field more cavalry than its neighbours.

The average soldier wears a long Brigandine coat and an almost conical helm.

Infantry tends toward spears or swords.

The other two kingdoms are the result of a schism between a single kingdom. This means that they do have some commonality in equipment (a shorter brigandine to their neighbours) but distinctive helmets.

Kingdom Two
Kingdom two infantry sport a reinforced helm.

They tend to have a lot of archers.

Kingdom Three
Kingdom three has less archers, but their infantry sport a wider flatter helm that provides protection from arrows.

The soldiers tend to use spiked maces rather than swords.

Northern Tribes
North of these kingdoms there are various disparate groups, which occasionally band together and strike south.

Southern Kingdoms
South there are numerous kingdoms.
They have various types of infantry and archers.

They also have more warriors in heavy armour, and the warmer climes allow for more and heavier cavalry.
