Looking for Mounted Knights for Jousting Game
« on: 14 August 2009, 01:38:10 PM »
Sorry to bother you guys, but I'm a bit out of my time period and I'm looking for some recommendations.

My father and I are planning a jousting tourney game for our wargaming group and we are looking for suggestions on figure manufacturers.

We are looking for mounted knights with lances, their horses in barding. We need about 16-20 of these figures.

We had purchased a bag of primed Bretonnians at HCON this year, but sadly those figs have gone missing.

We are also looking for figures to serve as the King and Queen of the tournament, as well as other nobles to sit in the grandstands.

I know Foundry makes some lovely figures, but any one else you can suggest would be great :-)

Thanks for your help!

I have a box of unassembled Bretonian knights somewhere. If I can find them I'll pass them on to Lee to give you. Should be close to the number you require there. No idea about spectators though there might be something in the extensive Reaper line.

My best bet is also Steve Barber. Although the sculpting looks a bit 'dated'.
After collecting miniatures for my own tournament project (pictures can be seen HERE, although text is in German, sorry), I strongly recommend a late 14th/early 15th century setting. With Foundry, Kingmaker and, of course, Perry there are some fantastic ranges to choose from - knights, peasants and pedestrians, everything you want. Especially civilian spectators for later times are almost impossible to find.

:-* Yes!  That's the look I am looking for in my own game. . . lovely set-up you created.

Hmmm, I just hope Babelfish is up to translating your blog. . .

Thanks for all the suggestions, please keep them coming.

Also Aaron, what scale are the Bretonnians, 28mmish?

They are the GW plastics from @8 years ago. I think they are about 28mm. Probably the same type you bought at H-con.

I have a number of the old Qualiticast 28mm figures. They come with a dismounted version too, very nice figures, perfect for tournaments. I don't know if you can still buy them. If you are interested drop me a PM.

Nope you cant he must have stopped sculpting some 6 or so years ago. A shame as he had some cracknig ranges. I had lots of his 20mm zulus and Brits whihc would give some of the 28mm figures a run for their money and I never got the Mongols he produced when around... :'(
