Are there any plastic 28mm moderns for this game?
« on: 20 September 2020, 01:04:38 PM »
Hi Chaps,

I was wondering if Warlord were planning to release any 28mm Moderns from their Zombie range? I have 8 of those figures and they were really useful but very hard to get hold of now.
Also Zombicide make great Zombies in plastic but is anyone else planning to do a modern plastics range?

I am a bit out of touch with the hobby due to work etc

The only injection moulded plastic zombies I know of at the moment are the Studio Miniatures ones.

The Modern ones.

Comparison shot

TWD, Studio Miniatures, Crooked Dice, Warlord/Wargames Factory, TWD and TWD.

There are also the WWW2 German zombies.

If you are happy with PVC and slightly larger size, then there are Mantic's The Walking Dead zombies.

There are a number of different figures (but the Walker/Roamer/Herd packs are from the same ten figures).

On the other hand they are a lot more generic than the Warlord plastic zombies.

For modern living figures, (although I consider them to be resin rather than plastic  - injection moulded polystyrene or ABS), the Anvil figures might be worth a look.

For some STALKER work, have a look here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=126732.0
To my mind the guns suffer from being too big.

I am using them for not Star Wars.

I just bought some of their male and female PMC for some rebels, so I should have some photographs soon.

Thanks for the pics and links Chaps. Its strange how quickly one forgets/loses touch with this hobby which is a lot faster paced than one would imagine.

I think the Zombies from Mantic are nice but a little bit too large for me... the resin stuff is very nice though. The best thing about Zone Alpha would be the small numbers involved so trying a new manufacturer isn't too risky.

Ultravillain, bizarrely I saved your blog to my favourites this morning when looking for inspiration!

Thanks again for the help lads.

Re Anvil Industry's figures, whether zombies or not, have no fear about their quality - they are top notch.

Make sure you order a few packs of their rat swarms.
I made four bases of vermin per pack (mine are now painted and should appear here tomorrow).

Oh WOW! Haha went on the Anvil industry page to order a few figures before work and lost almost half an hour just looking at the heads! Has anyone fitted these heads to Empress miniature figures?

No, but I will take some photographs tonight.

My guess is they will not match up.

Crooked Dice heads are interchangeable with Empress (waiting for the SAS gas mask heads to come back into stock).

As our smurfy friend says I suspect you will think the heads just a little too large for the Empress figures. Anvil badge them as heroic 28mm which translates as bulkier and slightly taller than anatomically correct 28mm figures.

A quick comparison here with a modern Brit, and as you can see he is just a little smaller and slighter than the Anvil figure.

check out my thread if you want to see the Anvil figures I have completed to date.

Here is that head comparison.

I did not order any of Anvil's modern weapons (I did order the MG-42 though) but here is a comparison of the weapons.

More on my Anvil purchase here: https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2020/09/anvil-industries-not-colours-2020.html

The assembled figures will be in the Future Wars sub forum, and the rats in on my Zona Alfa thread..

Thanks for putting the pics up Pete, your blog has been saved to favourites so I can check it out later in the week. Anvil do look tempting but that size difference has made me think again. Maybe Hasslefree should be looked at again... its just the expense! Can't decide if I am tight or sensible.

Editing this at 4AM on the dot as my 3 year old decided its time to get up... so I stated looking at the links and threads provided on here. Stunned would be a good description! Pete amazing work... the kilt man made me smile! You have a talent for sure.
Mr Smurf I am about to start reading your blog again.
I was feeling a bit jaded with miniatures and had put my paints away a couple of weeks ago... when the little one dozes off I will be setting up my bench again.

Thanks Guys.

I am glad you will be picking up the paint brush again.

I look forward to seeing your work.
