Malalai of Maiwand Vignette
« on: 30 September 2020, 06:29:53 PM »
In between messing around with my early Byzantines and the Sudan projects I managed to squeeze in some time to get this vignette put together. I'm sure you all know that the Malalai miniature came as a freebie if you buy three boxes of the beautifully crafted Perry

I've got several metal tribesmen awaiting their plastic compatriots to varnish and base up.

You can read more about Malalai and the vignette on my blog here:

In the meantime.....

Excellent Darrell.
That’s a lovely yellow on the turban.

Curse those Perrys, with their collect-all-the-boxtops-for-a-free-figure malarkey. Thanks to that ruse I've got more Zulu War Brits than I'm ever going to play with (though one box was a present for my nephew, so it isn't that bad).  :)

Another lovely job there, Atheling, though we wouldn't expect anything less at this point.

very nice work, Darrell.  I like the terrain on the base as much as the impressively painted figures.

Thanks people- all your goodly words are appreciated. :)

I have however just noticed a spot of paint on the back of Malalai's veil!  :o

More work to do on the vignette then.....

Nice work!  :-*

Love you paint style... but you know that.

I have however just noticed a spot of paint on the back of Malalai's veil!  :o

 lol

Happens to me all the time. Taking photos of your minis ends up a quality control measure in which I discover things I've missed.

I must admit that at least once in the past I have spotted a tiny blemish like that and used photo-editing software to remove it from the picture rather than paint to remove it from the the figure.

Sometimes when I feel I am 'done' with a figure I just really can't be bothered to send it back to the painting table. :)

I have a Masai blowing a kudu horn. One day I noticed that kudu horns are generally black rather than the light brown I did his in. Poor lad has been waiting on the painting table for about four years to get his horn sorted. Sometimes it's better to just say nothing and carry on.
