10mm Thirty Years War for In Deo Veritas
« on: October 08, 2020, 02:00:53 AM »
Recently I picked up the 17th century ruleset In Deo Veritas. After reading through a few times, I liked them so much to start up a 10mm Thirty Years War project with some bags of Old Glory ECW figures I had in storage. I ordered some additional packs of OG and Pendraken to round out my collection. My armies will be based on the first scenario in the IDV rules, The Battle of Fleurus. Here are some pictures:

Thanks!

Really nice work at that scale!

Not familiar with IDV. What are the total size forces you'll be working towards?
Focused on 6mm pike and shot and 28mm Frostgrave

Fantastic job, every time I see a thread containing 10mm painted as wonderfully as these it makes me wonder if 10mm should feature in my collections.

Very well done, I like the tercio in particular. :-*
I tried painting 10mm minis a couple of times but just couldn't figure it out. Makes me appreciate your work even more.

WP, thanks for the kind words. IDV was recently released by Helion Publishing under their new wargaming section. They are geared towards quickplay but there has been alot of thought put into the mechanics. There are about half a dozen scenarios in the back of the book and Fleurus is probably about an average size, maybe a tad on the small end. The Imperial army has 4  tercios, 6 cavalry brigades, a couple infantry detachments and one artillery base. The Protestant opposition has 6 infantry brigades (half the base size of a tercio), 11 cavalry brigades (they had alot of cavalry but they didn't all show up in the battle), and two artillery bases.

I am seeing that 10mm is a real sweet spot for the ratio of figure height to base width.  It is perfect for large formations.  Anything smaller starts to look like coloured fungus on a microscope slide.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt
