Ghost Archipelago Terrain Question
« on: 11 October 2020, 04:02:28 PM »
I've little experience with GA but am interested in playing. I'll collect/create terrain for it of course.  My question however is from peoples experience what is a better layout, lots of water with islands or none at all and heavy jungle ?

I ask since that seems to be how a majority of boards go, either many islands connected with bridges or jungle with ruins.

My preference would be islands over jungle. With islands and bridges you can play with the rules for boats which my group has really enjoyed. On the other hand you may need to make allowances for random monsters so that they don't spend the whole game stuck in difficult terrain.

Or you could go with jungle and water and go for mangrove/everglade style swampland

they can both work really well. Don't think one is necessarily superior in terms of potential game-play. But as Ogrob says, the islands approach does allow for water-bourne escapades and is very much in the spirit of the IP.
Hope you can get to try both approaches, and look forward to any AARs !

I thnk it depends on the scenario.  We are playing through the first set of scenarios and so far it is jungle.  You only need enough jungle for 3x3 table, so it doesn't take too much.  We have also used a bunch of big rocks effectively.
