My first Napoleonics...

After much hesitation I have finally gotten involved in Napoleonics. Whilst I am far from the many great painting masters on these forums I am at least not embarrassed by my painting efforts any more.

The current plan is a French Napoleonic project using Sharp Practice. It may have some fantasy/gothic horror aspects added at some point.

As usual advice, suggestions and feedback welcome.

There is more information on my blog but key lesson learned in painting this first sprue... paint them before putting the rucksacks on and a good wash really helps hide the mistakes.

One thing I found was that every time I thought they were done another little detail that I originally overlooked became apparent. For example the Bonnet de Police (ie forage cap) strapped below the cartridge pouch.

I was also going to originally skip doing the eyes but I found they looked a little too much like soulless mannequins without the eyes done.

Yeah, there's always something...

I'm not keen on eyes, myself.  I normally limit my painting to the eyelids and a few creases around them, but I never paint the eyeballs themselves.

Ah... Napoleonics.... 

This was the era that got me into painting my first miniatures. Before then I mostly did plastic models. I remember when I first encountered the Napoleonic wars, I was astonished to realize that folks had actually taken to the battlefield in such beautiful uniforms. I think I was 16 at the time... so 50 years ago.

My first Napoleonic miniatures were 54mm Historex. I then got into a group of wargamers who fought with 15mm.

It is a wonderful period to paint, whatever the scale. Complicated as snot, but boy do they look great on the battlefield.

You've done a wonderful job with your minis.
