Upcoming Perry Plastic Napoleonic Sets
« on: November 14, 2020, 01:40:39 AM »
Rather surprisingly, no one has posted about these yet but here are the next two Perry plastic sets, presumably to be released after the Franco-Prussian plastic infantry boxes (Alan Perry hasn't provided a time line yet, mind you, so nothing's set in stone). Russian/Prussian dragoons with parts to do either nationality (the horse furniture was very similar for both) and Russian Uhlans :

No release date yet as stated above but with the Napoleonic Austrian hussars coming out in late January and the Franco-Prussian sets also in the pipeline, these won't probably see the light of day until the second half of 2021 at the very least.

I hadn't seen this excellent news. That's my Napoleonic painting queue sorted for 2022 then -- once I've got all the Austrians done.  :D  I've been hoping for 28mm plastic Russian cavalry.

After years of waiting for 28mm cavalry that wasn't British or French, there now promises to be half a dozen sets. They look gorgeous too.

Interesting that they have gone for uhlans rather than the more numerous (and equally splendid) hussars. The Russian and Prussian dragoons are slightly dull by comparison, but the colourful facings brighten up the Russian dragoons.

Just need a bigger house with more storage space now.  ;)

Looking good! Reminds me, that I have some Prussian dragoons in my lead mountain. Only useful for 1813 really, but a good addition non the less. Probably only works with the interesting concept of one box for two nations.

What I‘m still waiting for are french lancers (if only as conversion pack for the chasseurs à cheval).

A couple of days ago, Alan Perry said on the Perry Mins FB page that he is aiming at a late January release for the Austrian hussars. He's also completed the artwork for the box.

Given the flexibility of such sets as the French Chasseurs a cheval and British Light Dragoons, I suspect that the Prussian Uhlans would have the option to make Prussian Landwehr cavalry as well. Of course, this is pure speculation.

The Uhlan set will be Russian, not Prussian.

Well you will be able to make Russian Dragoons but since these models don't have cuirasses, you won't be able to make a lot of Russian Cuirassiers.

However, perhaps Alan Perry will eventually get to these too....as he is doing a box of Russian Uhlans!

PS I haven't researched it carefully yet but one might be able to use some of the cuirasses torsos from the Perry's Austrian Nap Cav box...but then you would have to use putty to create the back portion of the cuirass....still, loads of things are possible using plastic, sharp knives, and putty! ;D

Dragons in plastic Cuirassiers in metal, two 32 figure Cuirassier regiments awaiting paint next year, after the 400 foot.

Why such big units...32 figs each....for cavalry....

No doubt they will look good in mass. Have fun! And post some pics, as I need inspiration to get my Russian Nap project back on track.
