Couple of Diecast Dinky repaints 1/60
« on: December 05, 2020, 11:54:47 PM »
Here are a couple of 1/60 Dinky diecasts I stripped down and repainted for my wargaming pal. They have new rubber tyres from Ebay but the original Dinky toy wheels. They look a bit plain as I have left the markings for him to do.

Here is one of them next to one I did for myself, I replaced the Dinky wheels with resin ones from Anyscale Models as I am more fussy than my mate.

I like diecasts as they make good robust wargames models and can be picked up real cheap in beaten condition.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

@vodkafan, nice job.

I'm with you on the durability of die casts. Costs for used and even some NIB models are normally reasonable, repainting is usually easy, and many lend themselves to nice conversions. One example, I have a Lesney Matchbox Scammel as captured kit in my 1:87 DAK.

A wargaming acquaintance has inspired me with a number of Lledo 1:64 die casts he was worked up as generic, expedient troop transport. Since the Lledo models vary widely, it seems many of their 1:64 work well with 1:72 and true 25mm figures... many not so well with 28mm (Dinky 1:60 seems better here), or true 1:76 or 1:87 figures. There seems to be plenty of opportunity to employ die casts in Pulp and out-of-the-main scenarios, such as VBCW.

Nice repainting! Well done.

Re; “picked up real cheap in beaten condition” I must live in the wrong place, these diecasts are always expensive when I see them at fairs or junk sales being ‘vintage Dinky” and if they’re beat up it just means they were ‘well loved’ and they are still dear. If I could get cheap ones I’d love to do what you are doing.  :?

Nicely done.
The wheels do make a difference. One note from my own tinkering and musings after seeing a comparrison shot(on here but as usual names escapes me) of a Dinky and Warlord version.
If you adjust the axle height .By just placing it under the cast axle loops. It makes it sit more comfortably with the Warlord version.
I experimented with using them to represent dummy tanks. ( also deliberately off colour scheme just to emphasize 'the dummy ' feel.

Definitely easy to pick up on eBay I got a job lot of six for £8.
