Temple Platform
« on: 24 August 2009, 12:48:31 AM »

Built from Hirst Arts dressed stone blocks, and inspired by the Aztec/Maya structures of Mexico & Central America. Both the main front stairs and the narrow back staircase have wide enough treads that figures on ordinary 20mm/25mm bases can stand on them.

It might yet get repainted, as most of the rest of my jungle-ruin pieces to date are in a greyish stone rather than this tan colour. It will probably also get properly based on MDF at some point, as I'm not sure it's strong enough to withstand transporting as-is. We shall see next weekend when I take it over to our gaming club.

The explorer of one of Copplestone's 28mm dino hunters.

A quick photo with flash, on my workbench instead of outside. I'll try and get a nicer picture sometime this coming week!

Nice!  :)

Is it built around something? I mean, are the bricks placed round a foam block or is it hollow or what?

It's hollow, mostly. There's spare blocks used as supports under the stairs and platform, and a few scraps of cardboard under there to brace things. It's solid enough to be handled, but I do worry about transporting it - it might find itself on an MDF base sooner or later, as I said.

As for finishing it, I've got one of Hydra's Saurian Idols to decorate the top with - it'll fit nicely in the centre of the platform!

(Image via Hydra's website; my own idol hasn't had it's picture taken yet.)

Also got some of Hydra's Ugg spearmen to defend their sacred idol from nasty interloping explorers, too. Great figures, I wish they did more than one pose, though.

Very nice Wirelizard.  I think it'd look really cool with the idol.  Be sure and take a pic.

Actually, I did take a photo my idol & dino-men, months ago when I first painted them up!

Flickr photo page.

I'm probably going to repaint the temple greyer than it is now, to match up a bit better with the idol.
