Can't help you on the rules, but EM4 has some pretty universal starfighter sprues, containing one each of all of these:

They're pretty dang cheap too. I believe they've been used in a variety of boardgames and also a miniature starfighter game; may have been Full Thrust.
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

I helped playtest them. They're easy to pick up and easy to create your own ships. I use my xwing collection to play but in quiet tempted by the Hydra Miniatures' retro sci-fi ships.

There's also Battlestar Galactic ships from Ares Games.

I've got a load of old Battlefleet Gothic and Full Thrust ships I could use for the smaller scale (miniature size wise) but larger scale (fleet wise) rules.

You can use anything you like really. I saw load of cheap Star Trek ships recently and was tempted by those too.

Would these rules work for Star Trek starship combat? Starfighters would imply that they are more suited for smaller craft?

Thanks chaps, as a Yorkshireman I like the sound of cheap Star Trek models, where would I glean them?

I've played it through about 5 or 6 times...

Pros
1. It's simple to pick up
2. Plays fast.. play a card, do your thing with a ship/fighter, next!
3. Cinematic: It has lots of pew pew, some cards have special effects, and that breaks up any predictable/boring patterns without neutralizing your plans

Cons
1. You need to picture the game starting right as the Commander says "Break Formation", because with each ship moving when a card is played there isn't any wingman or formation flying. It's not impossible, but the game is not set up that way.
2. Pilot abilities and tracking starts to get somewhat fiddly. The rules are intuitive and simple, but once you start trying to track all the special rules for ships and pilots, it is very easy to forget things

TL:DR
I had fun, and I would play it again.

Hope this helps!

All of the Fist Full of Lead rules follow the same basic premises;-
Quick to learn,  fun to play & able to accept adaptations (for adding your own touches).
I have played most of the different rules, but not yet the Starfighters.
Flatpack (of this parish) is planning to use them for WW2 aircraft.

Thanks for that my dear Baron, much appreciated.
My cogitations were leaning toward twizzling yer rules so Snoopy could mallet the Red Baron over The Salient. And Squadron Leader 'Battler Britton' litter the White Cliffs of Dover with shot down Messerschmidts!

Sure, it’ll just take some work on your part to differentiate the different planes. I never claim to history, but Hollywood. If that’s your inclination, then the rules should work for you. Ive got some notes on using them fir Crimson Skies.

Is there a link for the EM4 ones?
