One of my older brothers was an m60 gunner (and eventually squad leader) in C/2/8/1st Cav in the Central Highlands ‘66 - ‘67. He/they called it a Thump Gun or a Blooper.

I think the Yanks did call it the blooper and/or thump gun.

In Australian parlance it was the ‘wombat gun’ if anything.

These might finally tempt me into a small 'Nam project :)
It would be a great honour, when the grand master and Lord of plastic and PVA-glue himself would do it. I am looking forward to see the first figures. It helps to come over the lock down. I think about using FFoL for Nam. Maybe as FFoL:The smell of napalm on the table.

Love the smell of Gwyneth in the morning? Are you holding a candle for her by any chance? :D

A pint of unleaded, some moth balls and some polystyrene packing peanuts should give you the napalm smell. I wouldn’t recommend you fill a Tiki torch with it, let alone one of those scented candle holders. Should keep the mozzies away once lit.

* Younger readers are advised not to try any of this at home. Especially Ms Paltrow.

I think a bit of used engine oil and parrafin can help enchnace the effect.

I have seen on Facebook that the Viet Cong and USMC will be launched soon.

Has anybody seen an announcement about the prices?

I believe that M14 rifles will be part of the US Army set, coming down the line along with NVA and civilians

I think the Marine set will have M14s too, at least a couple on the command sprue.

This was the sprue layout a while back:

One thing to note is:

Though Carlos has pointed out that the M203 is out of period.

This is their forum thread: http://forum.rubiconmodels.com/index.php?topic=1064.0
and I will prod them for some up to date information.

That blurb is priceless, “based on TO&E”. Er, no, it’s really fucking not. Perhaps they meant ‘loosely based on’.

If all M14s were replaced by 1967, I wonder why there are all those photos showing them in use in Hue in 1968?

500 XM-203 were sent for combat trials with the Army in 1969. So suggesting that this reflects ‘the real TO&E’ is just a little er, fanciful.

Seems weird to have put the M14s in the US Army box. The marines hung on to them much later than the Army.

@ultrevanillasmurf:  I saw your question on Rubicon's forum.  I too am looking forward to their response.  I made my remark based on their facebook post a few days ago.  I don't do facebook (or any social media, for that matter 8)), so I could only read part of it for a couple days, and I could swear they included M60s and M14s on the "weapons included" list.  I know in previous posts, they said that M60s would be on the "command frame" (apparently, the sprue picture you showed is their (what I call) "grunt frame"), and that M14s would be included on that command frame if space permitted.  I'm hoping space permitted.  On the above-mentioned facebook post, it had a release date of January 22.

I might wait for their army troops (whenever they might be developed and released), and mix the 2 boxes.  I think I'd at least like my Marine auto riflemen to have some M14s...

As for their take on who had what when and how they were organized, I'm just interested in the figures.  I'll use my own sources to organize my troops... ;)
