I've now finished a total 11 units of Jacobite infantry and just have to finish basing them.

Here's Lord Slane's Foot with their heraldic Fleming family chevron flag.  I need to tidy it up a bit but overall I'm happy with it.

I’ve found that local history or archaeology societies to be a mine of information.  The participants are motivated and informed by their connection to their locality.  They often provide us with insights that would otherwise be overlooked.

Back in the 1950s the Louth County Archaeology published an article on the Irish Jacobite regiments of Lords Bellew, Louth and Slane.  It contains some very interesting detail on how they were armed that I’ve summarised on my blog.  There are also some pics of the regiments in question.

Thanks Jambo, I was delighted to find it.  I'm presuming the scythes substituted for pikes and were reckoned to be more effective than hastily made long spears.

My final Irish Jacobite infantry units will appear here next week once I have then based.

My final two Irish Jacobite regiments of foot Talbot’s and Eustace’s are now on my blog.

The Lord Grand Prior’s Regiment sometimes called Talbot’s Regiment contains two grenadiers I painted many years ago.  Their flag, a burning town with the warning “The Fruits of Rebellion” is memorable.  So much so that I attempted to paint it on the front of their caps.  You can see how that turned out in a close up pic.

My Irish Jacobite Army project is nearly done.  The Horse Guards need doing and two squadrons of cavalry respectively for Sarsfield’s and Tyrconnell’s Horse.  Then I need a couple of biggish bases of horse holders for the Dragoons.  That will be it.  Galmoy’s Horse will be finished today.

I had feared breathing new life into old figures would be a chore, it proved otherwise.

Abercorn’s Horse and Clare’s Dragoons are now up on my blog.  Two squadrons for the cavalry and mounted and dismounted for the dragoons.
