Looking for help regarding King John of England.
« on: February 03, 2021, 10:00:03 AM »
Wondering if anybody has any info on what type of horse livery, coat of arms etc would King John wear during the Baron Wars. I'm just about to start painting the new figure from Paul Hicks and Andy Hobday Kickstarter and I'm having trouble finding any images or decent info.  Thanks.

At the risk of seeming obvious:

4th row down.

As King, John would have the 3 lions passant (I think this was adopted in 1198 as the English royal arms, before that it was 2 lions?).

As Prince John that pack has a conjectural coat of arms, he was also Count of Anjou and several other French territories as well as Marshall of Ireland so might bear any of those arms.

The decals seem to be out of stock at the moment - the supplier Citadel Six is trying to purchase a replacement printer and is expected to be back printing decals by mid February.

TC,

I believe the most reliable source for almost all English kings if you want to know what they looked like are images of their Great Seals. A Google image search will provide you with a couple of options. I rationalise that all kings were intimately involved in how they were depicted on their royal seals and that it will be an accurate portrayal of them in their war gear as they were at the time - including the horse furniture detail. John is not quite so flamboyant as his older brother.
