15mm Russian Infantry 1812 Query
« on: 04 February 2021, 02:50:06 AM »
Our DBA gang is gearing up to jump into DBN gaming too, so I've pulled out a big batch of painted Heritage 15mm Russians to rebase.  I'm also adding some odds and ends of units to round things out and could use some figure help.

Between trying to decipher the few reference works I have on hand, and squinting at pictures of Russian figures online, I can't discern any particular difference between line Grenadiers and Guard infantry for 1812.  Nor have I been able to find any 1812 Guard Infantry in the old true 15 ranges.

Do Grenadier figures work just fine for Guard?  Would any minor conversions be in order?

The only difference is the shako-plate (repeated on the cartouche) - Guards had the double-headed eagle, while grenadiers had the three-flamed grenade badge.  So it's very common to simply use the same figures.  Late in the war (1813-14ish) the 2nd Guards Division also added red plastron lapels to its uniform, but that's also easy to add (if you want to) with a bit of paint.

Oh and Guards drummers had yellow lace instead of white.

Thank you very much!

That was certainly what all the indicators were pointing towards, I just couldn't find it spelled out that clearly anywhere.  Shopping can now commence....

Thanks for the link, Greystreak.

That has an overwhelming amount of minutia for painting 15s, but I've got it bookmarked now in case I really need to try to squirrel some bits of info out of the mountain of detail there.
