Reaper Bones* giants...

*I can see the point of producing big models in a light, cheap material to keep cost down - and they're certainly inexpensive for what you get but, *expletive deleted* me, they're horrible to work with. I'm fairly convinced that it's made from congealed snot  >:(

Congealed snot, or not, they have come up nice!

I’ve got a couple of these, and found them alright to paint, and the cost to size ratio is winning.

Very impressive.  :o

(I note your comment on the material though.  I'll stick to metal.  ::))

I'm a fan of the Bones giants, with one exception - one of mine suffered from the tacky issue and keeps becoming slightly tacky, despite paint/dip/flat coat, etc.

I'll be replacing mine with a 3D printed version my buddy has sent me.

They may be soft and bendy but the look fantastic. Great work.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Have you tried Dullcote? That tends to remove the tackiness from Bones PDQ.

Could you do a comparison picture again some known 28 mil human size miniatures please? Fantastic painting by the way.

Certainly can’t fault your painting on those, they’re beautiful!

Definitely agree about Bones being an unpleasant material to work with.

Yep, this one giant behaves differently than all my other Bones miniatures.  It was primed...painted, dipped, and flat coated.  Then after a few months, it started becoming a little tacky again.  I think the plastic is just leaking oils - something I haven't run into with other miniatures.  It's not excessive, but noticeable.  I think it's just a bad mini?

They even stay tacky after washing/scrubbing them with dishwasher soap? And of course you still need to prime them. Got a couple of issues with Bones myself - I only buy the bigger monsters in it - but tackyness is not one of them. Cleaning moldlines can be tricky, bended/warped parts is a serious issue, even more so with Black Bones ( hich is also a crime to clean it up and doesn't carry the detail too well.. A well, opinions...  ;)

Unfortunately can't as they're all packed up to go off to their new home

I think the plastic is just leaking oils

It isn't oils, it's mucus  ;)

Yep, after all of that.  Note, it's the only one of my many Bones monster-sized figures that does it.  I've a lot of random Bones minis/creatures etc.  This particular Giant is the only problem child...thus suspecting it's just off on its chemical make-up or some such.

The tacky part tends to be due to some primers...there's a long thread on how to handle it on the Reaper forums. I'd had it happen to me with some of my first bones minis and it took a bit of time to buy more after that, but other than those hit with some of the primers, there hasn't been a problem there.

Note - there are "normal" giants and "huge" giants in the store - link. The ones below I'm pretty sure are just the "normal" ones. The painted figure is 32mm foot to head. The female giant is 70mm and the male one 60mm. The huge ones are about 50% more expensive (although still very cheap), so presumably are quite a bit taller. There are metal versions of a couple of them, but you may have to remortgage your house to afford them o_o

I've been lucky with priming so far, but I really hate cleaning these figures. They're up there with Mantic restic where you have to slice off the flash :'(

Well those are rather nicely done! I especially like the frost on the lower parts of the, um, frost giants.  I don't mind the Bones material too much - the price is too good to pass up.
