Decent French voltigeurs in greatcoats?
« on: February 07, 2021, 05:56:30 PM »
I'm looking for some 28mm metal French voltigeurs in greatcoats skirmishing - but NOT Warlord.

They're for Sharp Practice so I'd like a range of poses.  I will probably go with the Perry Waterloo figures in the end, but they don't have the sabre-briquet and I would like that to be carried as these figures are for the Peninsula (plus the marching equivalents already have them).

Any suggestions?

Did you look at the Front Rank Miniatures offering?

https://www.frontrank.com/product-category/napoleonic/napoleonic-french/french-infantry-pre-1812/

They also have a nice selection for Infantry in "post 1812" uniforms.
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

When I read greatcoats I immediately thought of Calpe. But I don't know their range that well.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Hadn't thought of Front Rank, mainly because of the unitary pose, but does include skirmishers.

Calpe is a thought, but no skirmishing poses, only marching it would appear.

Thanks for the ideas.

If less than average sculpting quality and silly poses are no deal breakers, Old Glory do a pack of 28mm skirmishing elites in shako and greatcoats (not sure they tick the "decent" box in your list of requirements. They definitely wouldn't tick mine).

Arthur - yes, you have successfully "outed" me as a sculpting snob!  I might go for a pack of casualties but the others......errrr, no.

Matt - Thanks.  The top photo is the pack I'm holding as my "last resort" as the lack of sabre-briquet is very late war, and I'm going for middle Peninsula (which of course pretty much rules out the Russian winter boys!).

They're fusiliers : center rather than flank coy, and so lack the epaulettes, tufted pompom, crossbelts and sabre-briquet which distinguished the elite companies from the bulk of the footsloggers. They don't sport mustaches either, though that could easily be painted on.

Thanks, but in addition to Arthur's comments, I think I'd prefer my figures with legs.

Some strange anatomy on those from Gringo40s.

However, what about the French in greatcoats from Perry's are off? I have a few of them intended for the Peninsular. Not referring to the Retreat from Moscow figures with a hodgepodge of clothing but those in standard campaign gear.

It's the fact that the skirmishing figures in greatcoats are Waterloo-era when the voltigeurs had given up their sabre/bayonet frog and gone over to a single crossbelt.  I will use that pack if I have to, but I would prefer to have them with two crossbelts.

Baron: here is another option for you:

http://www.outpostwargameservices.co.uk/

I had a couple of these French as samples and they are OK in my book.
Marching, advancing, charging, standing and kneeling firing poses for the Voltigeurs with head and equipment variants of each. I don't know whether they will have the sabre but you can email the owner.

Thanks - they don't look too bad, but not clear what sort of pack organisation they come in.  I shall enquire about them.
