Kickstarter: 1066 by Pulp Figures
« on: 05 April 2021, 09:49:43 PM »
I’m about 2 weeks away from launching my 1066 Kickstarter. These figs have been underway for several years now, starting out as a project just for me and then getting completely away from my initial limited ambitions.

Most of the figs in this project have been worked on extensively in the masters phase to provide maximum character variety within the sets.

Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Launch date will be April 22.

Unfortunately I already have Norman and Saxon armies. But these look lovely figures and I wish you success in your venture.

I'll be backing this because I don't have enough 11thC figures.... ::) It doesn't look like there will be any unarmoured mounted Normans though- is that correct?

Not this batch but they will be coming, perhaps as later add-ons. There will be two unarmoured Saxon riders though.

The minis look lovely and having slapped paint on enough of your's over the years I know they'll be a joy to paint  8)

However,  I worry that you'll be limited to North American backers due to the present climate and worries about duties and handling fees.

Also, bearing in mind that SAGA players are, probably, your core market, the pack sizes don't 'work' for them - multiples of 4 makes more sense; no one is going to 'need' 15 slingers for example.... a 12 figure levy pack works much better. I fully realise that 15/16 figs fill a mould but sometimes less is more.

Despite the negativity I widh you best of luck with the KS.

The two ‘Raiders Pledge’ levels are designed to be suitable for Saga players and so come, for the most part in 8s and 12s. The two that come in 5 are simply because it would be silly to pull one figure out of the command packs.

Otherwise, the 5 figure packs are my standard format and have to do with how many figures I can fit in the mould. I also have a standard, company base pack price.

The 14/15 variant sets are going to be offered as either 5 or 6 figure packs, or as a Formation pack of 16. 16, being the closest I think to the average unit size, or in the case of Saga, multiples of 4.

Loosing backers due to UK import practices is simply a fact of life. However, Nick and North Star will eventually have to range, probably by year end. All of the moulds will have to be set up again before they are remade. A rather big job.

Thanks for your observations!

Just to be clear. Sets such as the Saxon Archers will be available two ways:

As a regular 5 figure pack that will guarantee one of each basic pose in the pack, chosen from one of the three possible variants of that pose.

Also, as a 16 figure Formation set. These 16 fig sets will be chosen with as much attention given to variety as possible but a few duplicates will be inevitable as their are only 15 total variants and there will be some mis-casts when running the mould.

Looking more closely, I have a few more questions.

1) what is the unit builder thing?

2) will the mule driver and women/children also be available separately?

3) is there anything like a distributor agreement to make shipping and the like easier for those of us who live in Europe?

A Unit-Builder set is a set that has one pose designed to fit in a tight formation. As a regular pack, they come 6 to a pack.

I have such sets in my Pulp Figures range but here, in the 1066 range, they come with assorted head variants.

The Mule Trains pack and the Women & Children pack will be available separately as well as bonus packs for some of the rewards.

Sorry, no EU distributer.  Everything will be shipping from Canada.
