Free Macross!

Well, Big West finally came up with a big enough bag of cash to buy off Harmony Gold and free the worldwide rights for Macross:

I guess it's good news, but it seems to me like that train left the station decades ago.  Maybe the anniversary will help stir up more interest.

The franchise is still running strong in Japan, we just haven't been seeing it over here.

True.  Should be interesting to see how well the real thing does over here compared to the Frankenstein's monster that Robotech was.

Certainly wouldn't mind seeing minis for the later Macross stuff, they've got some fantastic designs.  Heck, even the original designs would be nice to have more readily available.  Outside of 3D printing knockoffs and a rare few partial ranges (eg Studio Bergstrom, ancient Battletech, etc.) the closest we've gotten to a big release was Palladium's Robotech botch job a few years back.

Kids Logic has been able to do a recent line of the original models in 1/285.  These are beautiful resin models.  I've picked up a bunch to upgrade my commanders' mechs for BattleTech Alpha Strike.

Hmmm, they've added a few things since last I looked.  They're a little more expensive than I'd like for building a proper Zent pod horde for gaming, but the stuff I've seen in person has looked quite nice.
