Is there a proxy for Tamiya Flat Base?
« on: April 15, 2021, 02:31:18 PM »

Apparently, I shouldn’t do that, but I love to mix acrylic paints from different manufacturers. Some of the paint I’m using can be quite glossy, even if they’re sold as “mat”.

I usually add a drop or two of Tamiya Flat base to the mix, but lately I had a hard time finding this product locally.

Now, there’s a local hobby shop nearby and they carry several brands of products. So, it’s the reason for my question; is there a proxy for Tamiya Flat Base?
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

Vallejo does a Matt Medium but it's not as user friendly - being a dropper bottle one can't just dip a brush in the pot and mix in.

Winsor & Newton Acrylic Matt Medium.  Not as fierce as the Tamiya though

IIRC Gunze Sangyo produce something similar. Locally speaking if somewhere stocks Tamiya, they’ll probably stock Gunze Sangyo paints.

I love Tamiya flat base. If you can't find any locally I would be happy to assist in proving some from the US if that is reasonably cost efficient.
