Tamiya Flat Base,Brilliant !
« on: June 07, 2010, 09:42:50 AM »
Ever get sick and tired of satiny/glossy acrylics? I use Tamiya Flat Base X-21,just a little in each paint mix makes for a nice matt coat, don't use too much you'll get a horrible frosting. The flat base seems to work with most acrylics and has the added bonus of reducing surface tension.

Seconded! I also add it to standard mat artists varnish (1ml base to every 25mls varnish) to get an effect as good as testors dullcote.

I use it, or rather mix it, with a little water when I want to get rid of the glossy effect of some of the acrylics I use (Coat d’arms & GW).

Be careful though because if you happen to drop some paint in the flat base jar, it will become tinted and dry… >:(

I keep getting little white streaks with my testors - anyone any ideas? As long as I catch them in time I can put more dullcote on and it mixes out.
