Airfix in Afghanistan...
« on: April 17, 2021, 12:29:06 AM »
I'm having a go at Airfix's 1:48 modern British Infantry, funny looking figures, long in the leg and with little pinheads! Painting 'ems not much fun either as the uniforms, webbing and equipment are all very much of a sameness. There's not much to work with to make them interesting, but I'll have to persevere as the Taliban are ready and waiting to give them a fight.

If you paint them for mid 2010 you can have a mix of patterns. This is when the old desert camouflage was replaced with the new multi terrain pattern, until the October when everything was done in MTP, troops would have MTP uniform and desert body armour. You could even throw in the odd DPM shirt for variety.

The separate heads from Empress fit those figs and work very well if you something with a bit more detail.

Not really Dags, I'm resigned to cheap and cheerful for this little project. There's about a dozen Taliban, seven Airfix Paras and a cheap tack pre-painted Warrior I'll tickle up a bit.
I'm cogitating on using 'One Hour Skirmish' rules, so it's not going to be rocket science. Plan is for the Brits to turn up searching for an arms cache, maybe a self exploding civvie, and let it all kick off from there!

Here's some pretty rubbish piccys of the figures, I haven't got the hang yet of taking 'em with Herself's mobile trombone!

 :?

And to give them some fire support here's a tickled up ready made Warrior from 'Easy Models'...

Harry, not bad at all albeit the battlefield looks like Borsetshire rather than Helmand....
