15mm Spanish Civil War project
« on: April 26, 2021, 08:35:04 AM »
I've finally started on my 15mm Spanish Civil War project. I've been looking forward to it for ages, and I've really enjoyed painting the Peter Pig models so far. This is the first company I've painted, the British from the 15th International Brigade.

Superb. What rules do you plan to use. I recently bought “For Whom the Dice Rolls”  but need to buy and paint more figures before I can use them.

Thank you  :)

I bought A World Aflame, and will probably use the scenario from it. I like the rules, but I have a few issues with them that I might alter. Being a 28mm skirmish game originally, I'm going to change how casualties are tracked. I'd love it if it had a points system too. I don't mind writing scenarios but it's a lot more work without points.

I'm also considering Crossfire, it looks really fun. I'll probably be playing mostly solo, because I don't know if my group had much interest in this period. I really don't know if Crossfire would work solo, as a lot of its appeal comes from the swapping back and forth between players. Maybe I'll change them around to suit solo play.

I've heard great things about For Whom the Dice Rolls. Am I correct in thinking it is a larger game than company level? Because I'm painting both sides, I don't want to have to buy too many. Does it have a points system? I'd love to hear what you think of it!

Nicely done.  I'm painting the same figures. Peter Pig seem to be the go to outfit in 15mm.

Misneach, yes "For Whom the Dice Roll" are bigger than Company level . If you Google "Wargaming for Grown Ups" you will find the website with more detail and I think some sample lists, albeit I can't put my finger on them!

Thanks everyone    8)

SJWi, it looks like a fun ruleset. Not as many figures needed as I thought. The card system looks particularly interesting!

I posted another SCW unit I finished a while back today. They are a group of Dinamiteros, sling-armed militia. https://airtscorner.blogspot.com/2021/04/big-spanish-civil-war-project-part-2.html?m=1 I'm looking for more information on these guys, and I'd really appreciate if someone could point me in the direction of some more sources.

Finished off 3 squads of Nationalist Infantry. I'm not used to painting military colours, so the uniforms had to be done 3 times before I got them right  ::) I'm fairly happy with them though. Looking forward to the Moroccans and POUM Militia, as they're very colourful  :)
