I've heard great things about For Whom the Dice Rolls. Am I correct in thinking it is a larger game than company level? Because I'm painting both sides, I don't want to have to buy too many. Does it have a points system? I'd love to hear what you think of it!

Sorry I'm a bit late on this one. Been working on something else recently. FWTDR is for Brigade/Divisional level battles, and uses figures based like Peter Pig does for his rules on 30mm x 30mm bases (my initial armies were bought as BAIT army packs). A battalion normally consists of 8 bases, with 2-3 figures depending on weapons, with 3 for small arms and 2 for LMGs/HMGs. The rules have army lists in them, and a good game can be had with a brigade aside. If you want to see what a typical game might be then there's a few scenarios in a free pack you can download here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FOqSNdTyf0JNaQhmYgRJklHsREqmU1E2/view. As someone said, there's a description of how it works on the Wargaming For Grown Ups blog: https://wargaming4grownups.blogspot.com/p/for-whom-dice-rolls-description.html

It is sad to hear your local group probably won't be interested, as the period has everything just not in large numbers. I'd think that once you've played a game with someone they'll get hooked in. No one in my group was interested until I started setting up games.

Dave, agreed. If I was starting today I would go 10mm. Shame I have half a Peter Pig 15mm army!

I would probably look at 10mm now, but I do like my little Piggies. Fortunately For Whom The dice Rolls work with any size figures, if you can get them on a 30 x 30 base and even then it's not essential.

Sounds great - all my SCW stuff is on the Peter Pig basing standards. It works for a lot of other WW2 games like Crossfire. Once I have tried out A World Aflame I'm going to try some other sets too, I'll have to try FWTDR!

I agree, there is so much of interest in this period. I suspect that my group might be interested after all, I can't wait to set up a game!

We have a connection to the SCW in that the Irish members of the International Brigades sailed to Bilbao. from a port about 2 miles away from where I live. The same ferry service is in operation today, and as soon as international travel is allowed again, I'm definitely going to tour the Basque Country  :)

Misneach, I have my copy of “For Whom the Dice Rolls”. I just need to buy more figures for a decent-size game.

The one thing I wanted to do with FWTDR was NOT to re-work a set of WW2 rules, but think about the conflict in its own right. Visiting the Basque region is on my to do list.

Just finished some milicianas. Great fun to paint, and a nice break from painting uniforms.

A few extra bits for the project. A Nationalist T26, some barricades, and two ammo-donkeys!

I finished some stuff for both sides this week. I was dreading painting the Foreign Legion, but I'm happy they're done now. For the Republicans I did another squad of POUM and a Schneider CA1.
