These gladiator types are excellent.
But those yellow eyes...they are creeping the heck out of me
What's the reason behind that stylistic choice?
Hey there! Sorry for the delay in replying. The short answer is that I'm terrible at eyes. The longer answer is that I don't think it's possible to do eyes well at this scale without an element of caricature, so I decided to lean into that instead of trying to obscure it. I'm a big fan of Mike Mignola's style in the graphic arts (as well as Genndy Tartakovsky's), and so a few years ago I started trying to do this yellow, cartoonish look with all my eyes. Also, I have a tendency to paint in an overly naturalistic palette (a fancy way of saying my figures tend toward the drab...), so it adds a little extra bit of spice that fits in with the aesthetic I go for on the table. Does that make sense?
Thanks, I sculpted these!
Wow! That's awesome. They're excellent sculpts.
