Garfield seems to be leading a charmed life,  the booby trap didn't go off which must have pleased him somewhat and then a light wound keeping him out of the front line action and into the rear line action with the nurses.

I wonder if it would be possible to hsve a translation of "All except for 3rd squad's Private Barkus and his M79.  For some reason, he was back up on the hill by the M60 team, acting like a 6-year old kid playing right field." What it right field and why would you need to be 6 years old to play there?

I believe it might have something to do with Rounders which, in the UK, was played by primary school girls and boys some while ago (I remember playing it as a young child) and may account for the 6-year old comment. As I recall some American gentleman took it across the pond and introduced it there as 'Baseball'.

Yes, Garfield was lucky.  But probably not as lucky as you might think.  Not many female nurses at line battalion aid stations.  They were more up at evacuation hospitals.

As for Barkus, center field is a defensive position in baseball played in the outfield..  In youth baseball, not many balls get hit into the outfield, so kids playing there tended to get easily distracted.  As in "Ooh, that's a pretty flower..." or "Butterfly!"...
