I’ve enjoyed blogging my Building Troy project. I had every intention of continuing to share a step-by-step building of my tabletop until it was completed. My next ‘reveal’ was going to be a decorative columned frontage of Priam’s palace. I was excited about that!

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to shy away now from sharing any detail of my work in progress online and bring this to a halt now. The reason for this is, sadly, a rather ugly one. Sharing should be about designers and gamers exploring the possibilities of improving our tabletop hobby. It’s also the chance for gamers to have a say in the design of models that may become commercial products before their design is finalised.

However, it has been brought to my attention that a company has just released a range of “ancient city walls similar to those found at Troy”. It’s clear that the range isn’t simply inspired by my hard work and research but includes direct quotes.

If wargamers want to see more good design on their tabletops, we should all be prepared to call out bad practice and not support weak imitation that only goes to rob both designers and gamers of what we really should be promoting.

Totally get it .
It sounds very similar to why I no longer do tutorials on here.
No because this a bad place. Because it isn't . Simply because there's people who see the content as a resource to be mined.
I now only show image of commercial pieces and personal pieces once theyre painted or at the very least undercoated
In fact I had it with one of your old products ( the Arab house painted/ textured with the blue and white window. Which you used on your old website.)
'The how to 'was passed off word for word, and step for step, as original. After a quick word It was taken down in quick time. ;)
I do hope you don't loose heart and on principle( if nothing else) carry on with and enjoy your project.
Mark

Actually thought those were your designs, glad I returned here to double check.

I’ll be waiting for the Kickstarter with anticipation.

Oh dear!

Those are lovely models you've made- for some reason I particularly like the very well executed ramps.

A lovely project, really outstanding.
I was going back and looking at your posts on building Troy, from 2017.
Then I come across this one.
The Trojan Wars will be one of the last periods I paint,
as I am getting up there in age.(68 years old).
Would love to have city walls as part of the battle field.
Look forward to a kick stater (I hope).

Name and shame?

Good luck with the kickstarter  :)
