Belgian Paracommandos
« on: 03 June 2021, 02:30:20 AM »
I've spent some quality Covid time expanding on my Congo Crisis project. I've finished the Simbas (can you ever really have enough Simbas?), the Katangese Gendarmes (designed after Stryker Blue Force from the "Dark of the Sun" movie/train game), and a scruffy group of Congolese National Army (ANC) troops. My generic mercenaries are almost done, as are my Irish UN troops. Today, I finished my Belgian Paracommandos, using Warlord British WW2 paratrooper bodies and US Marine canteens, and FNs from The Assault Group and Commando Miniatures. Now, on to Stanleyville!

Very nice, a very interesting topic. I'm contemplating a mercenary force, unsure wether to do 60s Congo or 70s Wild Geese.

Nicely done! I’ve been contemplating using those Warlord paras as the basis for late 1960s Irish Army (Ireland not the Congo).

How tall are they, if you don’t mind me asking? Warlord’s stuff seems to be all over the place in terms of size.

Nice use of the warlord British Paras.  Lovely paint job, as well!

Liking topic - camo does indeed look spot on.  Are those are 28mm figures?  Where does the FN come from?

Great period! My Africa games are all set in the Congo, too. So much variety in forces!

Dan,
Good looking figures.  Having just watched Dark of the Sun, I am contemplating another dip into the Congo pool.  What are you using for Simbas?  I’ll likely use Vietnam ANZACs for mercs and Katanga forces.

Currently reading the Katanga 1960-1963 book by Christopher Othen and as well as the one about the Siege of Jadotville which was also picked up by Netflix. I can recommend both, and also, nice figures! I particularly like the camo you did and the swapped FN's.
