Car Wars vs Gaslands vs Warlands
« on: June 03, 2021, 09:13:35 PM »
Hello,

Need advice.

Which are the strengths and weaknesses of the games?

Need a game to outflesh a Terminator RPG. It is the Terminator Genisys the Miniatures Game. The dices are the same like Savage World's. Need better Car Rules.

Cheers Michael

Car Wars has specialised plastic bases for the vehicles; if you're not using those, you will need to jury rig a different turning template.  Uses specialised dice.  Combat ranges are pretty short to allow for playing on a small board, but these could be multiplied out for a bigger board if desired.  Vehicle design is pretty streamlined, choose a stock chassis and add upgrade cards.

I opted for Maximillian 1934 over Gaslands.  Overall, they are pretty comparable, but I greatly prefer the flexibility of the Max'34 turning widgets over the X-Wing style turning templates of Gaslands.  Got my copy through Eureka USA.  Works well for any time period

Have not seen Warlands.

One nice thing about Warlands is that it has pedestrian rules integrated into it. Vehicle design is fairly robust, perhaps less so for really out-there concepts, but there's a good selection of chassis, engines, tires, weapons, and upgrades. Unfortunately, I don't have enough experience with it to really comment on weaknesses of the system.

Savage worlds is a good go to skirmish game. As for car combat goes there are a few but the only one I can name is "burning rubber". Think this is a link to the file on the Geek.

Warlands is one of the most boring games Ive ever played. I really wanted to like it, but it is clunky and slow, the opposite of any good car game. Models are over priced and low quality.
Go Gaslands. Fast, fun, well supported.

Yeah, it is a shame Aberrant abandoned work on a very good game (Rezolution) to focus all their energies on one which really isn't (Warlands).
If you are just looking for a good car wars type game system to plug into a wider campaign the old GW "Dark Future" Rules are still amongst the best, plus they were distributed free by GW:

The expansions are also floating around the web if you want to get more detailled.
