1/72 Zvezda 100 Years War French
« on: 04 July 2021, 12:10:14 PM »
There appears to be a lot of wonderful and excellent 28mm figures on this board but not much 1/72, so I thought I'd fly my low-budget-freak-flag... Here are some of the Zvezda '100 Years War French Infantry' I've been working on over the past few weeks.

To be sure, there are slim-pickings at this scale, so I can understand why 28mm is so popular. I just can't really afford to splurge that much on the hobby at the moment, and 1/72 hits the sweet spot for me. A few months ago, I dipped my toe into wargaming beyond WW2 and I painted up some Airfix 'Sheriff of Nottingham' just for shits & giggles, but now I'm kind of hooked.

My painting is never going to get to a diorama-level of perfection, but these Zvezda figures look pretty cool using the old '3ft from the table' standard.

I started playing Lion Rampant this year so these figures will be used for that ruleset. These French will be facing off against my 'Sheriff of Nottingham' for the time being.

I tried to give these figures some kind of accuracy but truth be told...I'm still learning so I'm sure there's a fair bit that's not accurate. I put photos of the rest of the box up on my hobby-blog-diary (another thing that's very new to me...likewise posting pictures haha always seem to stuff something up...).

All the best, take care.

I’m a fan of 1/72 and I love those Zvezda 100 yrs war figs. Nice get and great looking paint jobs.

How’re you enjoying Lion Rampant? I assume well enough.

Thanks for sharing…I’m gonna check out the blog.

Good job! They are nice, dynamic figures. The painting looks good, and your basing is very effective.

I’m also liking the way 1/72 retinues look on the table. It gives the conflict a more ‘scaled out’ or epic feel than 28mms ‘zoom in’.

Also, this paragraph on your blog is perfect:

“ I could have been loafing around, comfort-streaming shows I've already seen, and generally frittering away the small moments that make up my extremely busy, but ultimately dull days.”

I’d bet a lot of us are living that life….

Thanks for the encouragement...painting this era is a different set of challenges and has me thinking much more about complimentary colour schemes & heraldry...

All of the amazing painting here on this site has guided me a lot.

We've had a lock down here in Darwin last week. I was stuck at home, with kids on school holidays, I had an online course to complete, so it hasn't quite been the chilled-out-tropical-dry-season I'd like. Painting has helped me soothe my nerves a little I won't lie...haha

As for Lion Rampant, I've only played it a few times so far. It's great, I love it and hopefully once restrictions are lifted again I can get back to my local club for a game.
