Really impressive! Once again, I love the bases you made, the whole scene is a delight to watch.

Four of the wolfriders are conversions- Splintered Light goblin foot soldiers mounted on Copplestone giant wolves.

As I’ve already said: I love your army, but the particular detail quoted above is a real stroke of genius. The SL wolves are okay, pretty good actually, but nowhere as good as the Copplestone ones. A brilliant, little change!

Excellent additions!

I like the "Uruks and really big Uruks" approach - it reminds me of Helm's Deep and the line about the "hugest orcs" being mustered in front of the Hornburg (in an army in which all the orcs appear to be Uruks).

Thanks for the encouraging comments, I’ve been on vacation and gotten behind on responding. I’m quite pleased with how the orc army has turned out. I haven’t figured out how many points it would make in Fantastic Battles (and I am usually not too focused on points anyway), but there are enough units and unit types that I think they will be interesting to play. I’ll be adding a few bases occasionally.

Unfortunately, all the wolfriders with helmets are from Magister Militum - the converted fellows have hoods or bare heads.

I just looked on the Magister Militum website, and no luck, they’re out of the Blood Dawn goblin wolfriders (they still have some Chariot Miniatures ones, but they’re not as well sculpted).

That's a shame, let's hope someone buys that line from them

This thread is so superb...as someone who is in the midst of 30+ larger (28mm) wolf riders...I am suddenly jealous :D

Thanks Elbows, that’s quite the compliment since your fantasy armies are impressive!

Kikuchiyo (and anyone else who is interested), here are a couple of comparison pictures of the wolfriders. On the command base, the fellow carrying the standard is from the Chariot Miniatures line and remounted on a Copplestone wolf. He’s a big lad - the photo angles doesn’t show it but his feet nearly reach the ground! The other rider on the command base is a Blood Dawn goblin foot soldier with the base cut off and some minor cosmetic rebuilding and mounted on a Copplestone wolf. The three figures on the rectangular base are all Blood Dawn wolfriders (the archer is a kitbash using an infantry archer upper body). Those are 1-piece castings, so it wouldn’t be practical to swap mounts on them.

Re: Pattus Magnus' Fantasy Armies - Orc-tober 2024 lineup
« Reply #326 on: September 30, 2024, 08:03:26 PM »
Orc-tober is upon us, so here’s an overview of my plan for the month:

It will be mostly about expanding the 15mm army. I picked up a few more figures from Ral Partha Europe to add a few bases to my “bodyguard” units. 9 heavy spearmen are ready to go. I also have 5 more sword orcs for another base for the bodyguard of Bolg.

The main body of work will be figures for 5 bases of common orcs, which will let me field 5 more bases. With the earlier orcs, that will make 3 units of 3 bases.

Finally, some “chrome” units - a goblin shaman with a wolf, two captain bases with big fancy standards, and two greater trolls to add a little more crunch.

Should I finish all of those and still have some time before the end of the month, I have no shortage of 28mm orcs and goblins that need painting! I’m looking forward to it, it will be a break from focusing on my war rig (November’s baby).

Re: Pattus Magnus' Fantasy Armies - Orc-tober 2024 first painted figures done

As is often the case, it took me longer than I expected to finish these, but real life had been more intrusive than usual this October. Still, some progress is better than none!

Most of the orcs here will be split up into mixed groups of 5 and end up in units of common uruks. The three ex-Demonworld figures with swords will be on a new base of bodyguards.

More to follow (hopefully) soon!

I like the dark red / black shields but I have to ask - only two trolls???  lol

Are you still using Oathmark, and if so how are you finding it long term?
