A Fistful Of Coca Leaves
« on: July 24, 2021, 04:19:59 PM »
We were going to put this on at Hammerhead next week but as it was cancelled a few of us got together and had our own mock Hammerhead.
We had stat cards for 4 Mexican street gangs - Byz Lats, Los Mags, The Toros & Las Prophets and 3 cards for the Federales (2) and a DEA team, for which players drew randomly; amazingly we ended up with 2 gangs v 1 Federales and  DEA.
Then we drew random cards for start positions on the board (the arcade, the café, etc) and random mission cards to get the game rolling.
The rules were our own take on the popular Fistful of Lead.

Despite it being random choosing all the players started within a one street of each other  lol
The Byz Lats started in the arcade with the mission card of robbing as many businesses as possible, so they held up the arcade and headed for the door....
The Los Mags started in the kebab house and were tasked with robbing the bank over on the other corner of the board so out onto the street they came.
The Federales were getting ice creams at 'Stans' and their card said they had received a tip off saying one of the 4 city gangs was in the arcade  :o lol
The DEA were in the mini mart on the corner facing the arcade and 'Stans' and their tip said there was a gang in 'Stans' so out onto the street they came.

You couldn't make this s**t up!

It got messy very quickly  lol

As the Byz Lats exited the arcade a couple of them had the bright idea of jacking the police car idling outside, the Federales over the street had other ideas and opened up, missing the gang members but shooting out the engine block of the car - at least the gang couldn't get a ride  :)

As we ended each turn we randomly diced for the vehicles on the streets and the passers by which saw a 2 car pile up over on the other side of the board between a police car and an ambulance  :o

With 3 factions now involved in a gunfight on one street corner (why did I model a 4 foot square boards?) the Los Mags decided to head for the back alleys to get to the bank but couldn't resist taking a couple of shots down the street at the hated Federales and killed officer Quintero.

In other 'news' a local reporter who had been questioning the Federales Sgt about violent crime got caught in the erupting gunfire and fell wounded, thankfully her cameraman caught it on film.

Everyone was now getting into their stride and bullets flew across the street.

Sgt Rodriguez was wounded by the Byz Lats, but managed to wound gang member Guerro who scrambled for cover under the wrecked police car and never came out (took a lot of shaken markers  lol).

Matt Weston, from the DEA team, killed Manuel Diaz and the Byz Lats realised it was now fight or die.

A couple of the Los Mags kept up their fire on the Federales but most of the gang were on the way to the bank.

Just to add my two cents worth.
Great game & scenery organised by Ian & Dave.
Many thanks for:-
Putting up with JC & me,
the fun, action packed, game,
great sausage batches & lashings of tea & pop
followed by a delicious home made cake (thanks Lin).

My pictures:-
04092 = The set up.
04093+4 = Quite before the storm.
04095 = Dave's Feds pile out onto the street
& talk to the reporter about how safe the
              streets are with Federales around.
04096 = JC's gang burst out of the Arcade prepared
to jack the nearest car, only they fail to notice
the Federales paint scheme, lights etc.
When the Feds across the street call out to
them they do the reasonable (????) thing &
               open fire!
04097 = No one knows what alerted the Feds. It could
have been the blaring alarm bells at the Arcade,
or knowns Hoods trying to steal their car or
the said Hoods firing at them, but alerted they
were. Several of them didn't bother reading rights
or other 'niceties' they just went fully automatic!
Unfortunately they only hit their own car! lol
04098 = Forces of Law & Order were not having a 'Nice Day'.
On the other side of the block a Police car and an
              Ambulance accelerated & turned...into each other! :o

As the bullets flew on 'gunfight corner' some missed shots (and there were plenty  lol) hit a RV coming down the street which duly flipped and exploded, killing officer Castro in the blast

The blazing RV effectively cut off the street to the bank so happy day for Los Mags who just waltzed into the bank.

In the gunfight the Byz Lats ceased to exist as a gang; officer Obregon killed Amado Fuentes, agent Gina Calabrese killed gang boss Orlando Calderon and then put down Fausto Alarcon wounded but was herself killed in the exchange of fire. The one Byz Lat still standing was Angelo Alvarez and he fled the scene.

04099 = JC's gangs shooting was so inaccurate they missed
ALL of the Feds, only to hit an oncoming RV,
              causing it to crash. :-X
04100+1 = Using Ian's rule (you can play a Joker as ANY
special event you want, as long as it fits in with
the game) I played a Joker to get the RV to...
                  EXPLODE !!!!  :o :o :o. Dave's Federales took a
                  hell of a beating.
04102+3 = Meanwhile my guys were in the Bank, persuading
the clerks to make a generous donation to our
                  Social Club.
04104 =  From outside the Bank you would never guess a raid
was going on. Helped by another Joker, the staff
decided the money was not worth dying for, &
               there was no shooting :D
04106 = My 'Innocents' exit the bank & prepare to merge with
              crowds & make their escape.

Very cool.

(I only tripped over your post, seems all of the modern gangs stuff is posted over on the Pulp board.)

We wrapped up with Los Mags walking out of the bank with a substantial haul - random event saw the bank security put down their guns.

Final numbers:
Los Mags. Clean sheet. Achieved their objective without loss.
Byz Lats. 3 dead (including the gang leader), 2 wounded and one on the run leaving their miserly haul behind covered in blood.
Federales. 2 dead, 2 wounded.
DEA. 1 dead, 2 wounded.

Was Emily Blunt not in the game this time? Perhaps being shot in the head last game dampened her enthusiasm  lol
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
