I thought you are painting mono chrome building :-* :-* :- :-* :-* :-* :-*

Scifi noir could be a thing.  "Arcturus 3 was a gray world, aging gray colony buildings sprawling around the gray expanse of the landing field, swept by cold rain from gray skies."  :)

I mean, we've seen it done to good effect in horror games.

It’s very tempting, as it’s a much quicker and easier paint job… and removes the chance of me cocking it up too :)

I've only just noticed this thread; wow, those buildings are sweet, jolly good work.  (I'm also really looking forward to the C87 Kickstarter, not to mention the tentative C87 game further in the future.)

This weeks work on the Colony 87 builds. Base coat and washes on the parade of shops. I need a few highlight passes to take the edge off and tie things together, but shaping up nicely.

Also built a little comms kiosk. Plus some domes for the Salvager family. Both originally TT Combat kits with various cladding and gubbins added to the kiosk.

And finally got some paint on the container stack.

Brilliant work! Excellent attention to detail and distressing, looking like Bladerunner movie prop models.

Rather standard issue for cyberpunk.

Definitely movie set worthy, liking the drab colouring. Another 15 of those and it’s a colony worth fighting over!

I just love the level of detailing on the parade of shops - it totally evokes the right vibe and looks lived-in. How are you painting the desaturated colours - is it washes over your undercoat?

Thank you! I use cheap Halford primers for an undercoat - black, grey and then white - occasionally red. Full black undercoat, then grey and white in lighter passes. Not quite Zenithal, but not a million miles away. This gives a natural highlight, and means you can sometime get away with a wash and get a nice result.

Base colours are usually applied with a sponge - building up highlights. Wash is usually Agrax Earthshade as it just works for everything. Highlights again with a sponge including some white passes to dull down colours - but thats coz I like a muted palette. Sometimes I cock it up, out want to knock it back more, so repeat the shade and highlight until it works :)

The other great time saver is the GW Typhus Corrosion for all the rusty bits. Painted on from the pot it’s pretty good, but a dry brush of Ryza Rust and white and it works wonders!
