Stargrave Mercenaries - Crew added 22/11
« on: September 12, 2021, 03:56:56 PM »
So I bought some Stargrave Mercs mainly for generic cannon fodder/security for a number of rule sets.

They are really rather good models - clean and simple yet the plentiful ammo pouches, grenades, packs and holsters mean each trooper can be a little unique.

Here's my stab at painting up a squad (2 sections with Leader, Specialist and 3 grunts) in drab uniform.  A very useful kit.

I have some Crew too which I will make a little more colourful (Spoiler Alert - they're rather good as well).

Never used Northstar plastics before but I will certainly buy some more (Oathmark Fantasy I'm looking at you).

Excellent value "bulk out the forces" type models.

They look nice and I agree wholeheartedly about their quality and utility for games beyond just Stargrave, but are you sure you've got a Mercenaries box there?  Those sure look like the Troopers box figs, which are more uniform about their armor and gear.

I mean yeah, they could be small-m mercenaries easily enough, but the box labelled Mercenaries has a more varied look to its armor with each of the five poses having slight different styles.  They're really good for a paramilitary or pirate look, where the Troopers frame fits well for regular military and corporate security types.

And all the kits can swap parts easily, but you probably know that already.

Quite right, they're the Troopers - slip of the pen.

Thanks

S'okay.  Was mostly concerned someone might buy a Mercs box based on seeing your paint jobs and wind up with a surprise.

Very nice indeed.  Make excellent regular troopers, or high-end mercs/security.

Well 2 months later the crew (bar 1) are complete and at the risk of repeating myself, these are nice models - cheap and useful.

I used Vallejo inks as a contrast type effect over white primer on the yellows, blues, greens and blacks and was very pleased how they worked - very easy to control and gave great coverage.  The instant shading and highlighting, especially on the blue overalls was just one coat - very quick for tabletop models.

Time for a game methinks (after I tidy up the feet).
