Expanding My Tree Collection
« on: 11 October 2021, 04:44:58 PM »
It seems like you can never have enough hedges or trees in your medieval or ECW games and although I have several feet of hedging I only had three trees. By adding 6 more I have tripled my collection! :D

2 of them are made from Woodland Scenics armatures, 4 of them from sage brush cuttings I bought second hand; on some of them I added plastic WS branches added to them as shown in the picture below:

I used my now go-to material for the canopy branches, 3M Heavy Duty Stripping Pad material.

After a spray coat of grey primer, followed by GW's Wyldwood contrast paint and a light drybrush of grey foliage was added.

I used two types: on your left in the photo below, Heki Tree Leaves 1620 and on your right, a blend of SuperLeaf med. green and spring green (with a pinch of moss green).

The basing is my usual static grass mix with med. green SuperTurf and home made shrubs over a foundation of bark mulch that had been ground in a coffee grinder. With a coat of thinned burnt umber I am quite happy with both the texture and colour.

I agree, they look great.

Purely coincidental, I'm also working on a couple of new additions to my wargame tree collection and have just taken some images that I hope to be posting soon.

Really nice job on those. Now, you just need about 200 more of them!

As a retired tree surgeon I approve of those trees! I’m (very slowly) increasing my tree collection but the mould lines on the woodland scenics armatures have nearly destroyed my sanity!
