28mm 'Alien' aliens
« on: September 24, 2009, 10:45:06 AM »
Hi,

Does anyone know of anyone who makes 25mm Aliens - as in the movies, either in platic or white metal?

Cheers

Horror Clix are HUGE! They tower over Copplestone figures.

Reverisco do some passable not-aliens, but they are true 25mm - may work with Denizen's mid-tech troopers or Liberation's 20mm sci-fi marines.

I don't know why there isn't a better selection of Alien xenomorphs available. I am constantly seeing supposedly IP challenging sculpts like Copplestone's not-Predators, a lot of the Hasslefree characters, Heresy stuff etc. And there are quite a few not-Aliens in 15mm - QRF's xenos, Khuasan's Space Demons, Pendraken's Aliens (okay, they're 10mm…), Laserburn's Alien and GZG's xenos. So if companies are willing to go very close to others' IP, then why not take a chance on some 28mm Aliens? Particularly when so many people want to buy them? Is it because Eureka once did some and had to pull the range?

And why are there so many Aliens available in 15mm but no (decent) 15mm Colonial Marines?
(I know about the QRF ones and used to own some, but they are BIG and chunky…)

As you can tell, this is a topic that 'bugs' me a little…  lol

I suppose it is whether they want to take the risk, not only Eureka got hit, Soapy removed his not Stargate minis some time ago which promised to be a cracking range.

On xeno morphs check out the Heresy Lurkers they are very nice and could easily be used as "Aliens"

I used Kryomek as an alternative, there's always Tyranids too. ERM do a range of film aliens.

Didn't Baker Company have some ?
Plus a range of colonial marines including buggies.
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

Forgot about the lumpy ERM ones - I quite like them though. They'd go well with the Gripping Beast/Woodbine Colonial Marines…

The Baker Company ones (Parasites) are smallish too IIRC. Again, more 'true 25mm'. There aren't many different poses either. Aren't they very smooth too?

Matakishi's use of the Kryomek range is inspired. They look really menacing en masse.

I know the Alien is supposed to be big. I said they were huge in a 'buyer beware' kind of way as the original poster didn't state what range they'd be going up against.

All good suggestions however. ;)

Leading Edge were the only licensed metal miniature range I can think of:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/leading-edge/aliens.html

OOP and hard to get, also 25mm.

Horrorclix are your best bet if you want the real deal, look good next to Copplestone/EM4 models, check Tom Weiss' site for repainted examples next to EM4 troopers:

Other suggestions are mentioned here. I made my own versions from GW plastic Bloodletters:

they do not resemble them closely but the general idea does come accross.

Somebody somewhere modified GW Bloodletters into aliens, looked great but a lot of work if you want numbers. Can't find it at the moment, it was on Frothers or here.
EDIT: lol, see above :D

Picture of my Kryomeks just because...

If you decided to go the Tyranid route, there's a tutorial here on giving the 'nids that Giger-esque look.

Not a big fan of prepainted plastic...however, the Horrorclix Aliens are fantastic...plus there is a queen!!! You will need a queen alien before this is all over! ;)

I have three boxes of aliens, one box of predators, the queen and one of the limited cloaked predators. I'm not a fan of the flexible needs must.

The queen is the easiest figure to get hold of, its the rank and file that are getting as rare as hen's teeth!
