Warfare 2021, Ascot - Wargames Association of Reading
« on: November 28, 2021, 04:23:31 PM »
I spent a very pleasant day yesterday in the company of friends travelling up to Ascot to attend this year's Warfare show presented by the Wargames Association of Reading.

The venue was very nice and with plenty of room to host the traders and games without forcing visitors to rub elbow to elbow to see what was on show.

As usual, as well as recounting the day I have included a review of the games that caught my attention, so if you would like to know more then just follow the link to the blog.

I managed to pop in at the end of Saturday and thought the venue was great (parking was a sod). The beer could've done with being a bit cheaper though...

Shame it won't be there next year  :?

Yeah, moving further South. Takes it out of our comfort range.

Sixteen grand price hike apparently made that unfeasible. It would have put the price of trade stands up from merely 'expensive' to 'probably more than Salute'.

The limited unloading spaces also made the venue far from ideal for the stands.

It was a good venue - one of the best bacon sandwiches I've ever had at a show - definitely put Excel to shame. The lunchtime pie was a cut above as well.

It was a little odd in places - there seemed to be hot and very cold spots - some traders wrapped in multiple layers, others in t shirts, and as a punter I could feel the temperature gradients as I wandered around.

Thought it was light on participation games this year. It didn't help to have all the demos and participation games grouped together at one end of the ground floor, and all the tournaments hidden away. I liked a walk around them at the sports centre.

Always one of the best B&B's - bargains to be had, and I came away a very happy man.

Where is next years show going to be? Are we allowed to know?

Well, it was certainly a much better venue than the dingy Rivermead sports centre with its terrible lighting and woefully inadequate parking. Sad to hear it won’t be at Ascot again next year, but them’s the breaks. Farnham is even closer for me, so not all bad.

Next venue for Warfare in 2022 - Farnborough international exhibition and conference centre - somewhere new and exciting for us all to explore.

Ascot was nice but not viable after they increased the costs by circa £16k for next year - their loss.

Almost on my doorstep - that will make a nice change, there is very little in the way of shows around here.

Thanks for your comments chaps. It never fails to fascinate me the amount of comment a post about this show can generate so I reckon it’s important to a lot of us.

Cheers

Farnborough next year, so surely:
2023 Guildford
2024 Horsham
2025 Brighton

Look forward to it being a 20 min drive in three year's time  lol

I thought along similar lines when the 'Derby' show moved ever closer
to me here in Rugby. It got to within 15 miles, yahoo! Then died the
death, never to be seen again. :'( :'( :'(
