Mason,
Glad you like my LoTR collections. I've posted a fair bit on these and am currently working on some siege equipment and defensive machines. Ultimately I hope to recreate my own version of the Battle for Osgiliath, the Siege of Minas Tirith and the Battle of the Morannon, though it may take a while!
Warriors dreams, summer grasses, all that remains

Really fantastic work!

I really appreciate the small details you've worked in as well. The Tree etched above the gate is a nice touch.

I have just checked out your 'How to make a Mumakil' article and have to say that they are magnificent!
 :o :o :o

The shot of the seven of them all lined up is drool-worthy!
 ;D ;D ;D

Then you go and add another THREE!
 :-* :-* :-*

Great stuff!

(Now to find the time to read all your other posts on this project....)

I'm hoping to showcase some of this at least at Salute 2012 for an Armies of Arcana game :), but my co-Arcaners have been very quiet on the interweb of late... :(
Otherwise its just so much elaborate loft insulation at the moment.

After a lengthy respite I've returned to completing the Rammas Main Gate - having finally sourced the necessary sized bolts, courtesy of Hornby track pins

And work on the rear with locking bars

I can't use bolt heads on the rear, so will have to add them as a paint effect. Just as well the gatehouse is deep and dark!
I'm now working on the inner arcading and murder holes and have almost completed the portcullis and drawbridge assembly. More pics to follow...

Hopefully not a duplicate entry -(the interweb's a bit twitchy today).
WIP of the main gate of the Rammas Echor after a lengthy break. The scratchbuilt drawbridge, portcullis and main gate nearing completion. I have only a little internal modelling of arches and murder holes to go now that the internal mechanical issues have been resolved. The gate and portcullis are completely removable and the drawbridge and chains can be detached using wooden dowels. In the future I may model a shattered portcullis and broken gate substitutes

 :o :o :o

Absolutely amazing!

I love the attention to detail, especially on the brickwork and the effort you have obviously put into the drawbridge and portcullis.
Very inspirational!

(I am taking notice of your detailing on the foam as I have used this method myself in my Mordheim project here on this board and any tips are most welcome...)

Coming from you Mason, that is praise indeed - I have admired your ongoing Mordheim project from afar
The only general advice I would give is forward planning and never throw anything out - but you already do that. I use sketches etc. to try and visualise the internals of a building and how it is going to work based on numerous historical examples for inspiration. Having rambled around loads of medieval ruins I also look for weak structural points and what is most likely to survive, what not...
Even my smallest scraps end up being used as rubble, so nothing is wasted...

The Gate & Portcullis are SPECTACULAR...they really enhance an already equally spectacular piece of terrain. VERY WELL DONE!

Got a chance to use some wall sections in a small game over the holiday. It was good to see the ramparts defended and the Mumakil in action...

Between my Work server not liking Photobucket and my son taking huge file size pics with his new camera it will be tricky, but I'll do my best...
On the workbench atm are some scratchbuilt siege equipment - assault ladders and trebuchets. I will post pics of them soon. It may be a while before they get into a game though...

Finally photobucket is up and running again... a few more pics of the recent game in progress
The mighty Mumak leads the assault

The initial advance by Harad

The Harad forces advance against the defenders on the battlements

An aerial shot showing the Harad left gaining the walls

Picked off by Harad snipers behind mantlets, a solitary archer is all that stands in the way of the second regiment of angry Harad warriors to reach the walls

The final stand of the Men of Gondor with the valiant Gondorian Captain in mortal combat with the wounded Harad Chieftain (the slain are lined up behind the walls)
