List of Silver Bayonet Factions?
« on: 19 March 2022, 04:33:32 PM »
I've got the book on order, but can anyone give me a list of all the playable factions? I'm seeing sweet Irish and Highlanders and such here, are those factions in the book or being used as 'counts as'?

Thanks!

The "Official" ones are French, Brits, Spanish, Russian, Austria and Prussia. But, as usual in Mr. McCollough style, he let you play any faction you feel suitable, Inventing your own characteristics or just play them as a sub-faction with the same traits of one of the Official.
Edit: for ex. I play with Neapolitans which gather some of French and Spanish traits. ;)

Ah, I see. Thanks.
I'm looking at some Bavarian models. I guess they might be a sub-faction of Prussia. So, they'd follow Prussia's traits. Hmm...they weren't part of Prussia at the time tho. Does it list sub-factions or does one just approximate?

Might want to meld Austrian and Prussian characteristics.  Bavaria was, like Austria, a very Catholic country (unlike the Lutheran Prussians).  Bavaria was allied with Austria until the defeat of  Austerlitz in 1805.  Thereafter, unlike either the Austrians or Prussians, the Bavarians were part of Napoleon's coalition.

This is my take on the special characters for a Bavarian unit:

Native Scout, Occultist, Rifleman Swordsman, Werewolf
(Scout = Alpine hunters/foresters, Munich Book of Necromancy & Ingolstadt University for Occultists, dueling more prevalent than in Prussia , Werewolves quite common there.)

I plan to use different nations "Marine" figures along with "Pirate" figures as ship's crew. I it would give me a great diverse look of figures. Going from port to port looking for trouble. Having a ship has a home base and supplies can be had from trading from port to port as well. Just have to hope the port you come to is under your nations control. This way I can be in Europe the American Colonies and all the way down to the Caribbeans or northern Africa. Also, it can give me a chance to use the Artillery Man by using one of the ships guns. I can use sea creatures like the "Deep Ones" and others, as with all the land creatures.
I can have conflicts with small port garrisons, along with local Militias/Bandits. I plan not to limit myself too just the book's basic listed factions. You can recruit people with the skills of those listed but they don't have to be in uniform such as Pirates. I can also have everyone listed in the book, just they are on the ship and still use the recruiting 100-point rule system just for a shore party. I plan to pre-make several 100-point teams, I just roll which team is going to be the shore party right before I start the game. I think it will mix things up, I can plan the scenario and not know which team will be playing it out.

I live in the middle of farm country, so all my games are played Solo. So, I really have to use my imagination.

So really there are no faction other than your character is part of a special unit.

Just remember "If the Enemy is in range, so are YOU!

Great ideas for a varied and enjoyable campaign. I’ll probably steal some of it :)

I'd also include the Priest as Bavaria is strongly Catholic so it would seem reasonable as an option.

Just to be more clear: Faction/Nations characteristics are given by the type of "soldier " you can recruit along with your Officer, who will lead them. The type of Soldier a Nation can recruit depends more or less Historically by the social/religious/Military traits it has during the years if the Napoleonic wars. So, no Sub-Factions list. It's up to your imagination and your game behaviours. As you can read in the answers of kind fellow gamers...there are no Limits!!!

In that case, replace Occultist with Champion of Faith, you don't see both options in the same list.

I didn't go that route as I see the Champion of Faith as a more radical sort than your average priest.  Bavaria had completely routed out the Jesuits before the Napoleonic Wars and the Bavarian Illuminati were in full sway promoting a more rationalist belief system opposed to superstition.

Thanks, all, for the feedback. I’m getting the book today, so it’ll all become more clear to me.

Regarding Bavaria specifically, I too was leaning more towards ‘priest’ as I intend to convert my Bavarians from the victrix set with a set of victrix dark ages saxons (for weapons and armour and such) and those victrix saxon sets have monks in them. I really don’t know a lot of the specifics of Bavaria at this time though, but am learning. I did live near that region as a child in the 80s, but didn’t pick up napoleonic era history. I’m mainly picking them because of cool uniforms ;)

Monks are quite versatile for different character slots depending on what skills you want to give them.  Could be Champion of Faith, Occultist, Veteran Hunter, Doctor; the one in my Neapolitan 7º Real Africano is the Supernatural Investigator.

You’re right. I think I’m just going to use the Austrian list but still use monk model for one of the roles.

Adding a Preist or a Monk is a great idea, thanks for the tip!

For my Bavarians, using the Austrian list, I'm thinking I'll go with the following:
Leader
Dhamphir
Occultist
Tactician
Infantryman x 3

This gives me all the soldier types that Austrians can have, but are limited as well as a core of infantryman. Going into this, I knew I wanted to go with quite a few infantrymen as the main draw of this game is the colorful napoleonic uniforms. a lot of the official warbands don't have many infantryman in them so don't look strongly napoleonic to me but more just generic gothic warband.
