Rules
« on: 22 March 2022, 05:21:20 PM »
Hello,
It has been a long while I played any game. Used to play black powder, warhammer ancient battles. I’m looking for easy/simple samurai solo rules or adaption for solo play. I find it difficult for learning new rules.

Chipco rules still sells Chrysanthemum Throne. You have to email the author to get a copy.
Chipco2@aol.com was the last email address I know of (circa 2020). $15 gets you CT and two other short rulesets (Napoleonics
and a horse and musket set, I think).

They are short and easy, and have some similarities to DBA.

Fistful of lead gives a nice quick, simple, fun game.
They also did a solo play rules sheet, as lots of
people couldn't get real opponents during the
lock-downs. Try Wiley games (if you are in the
USA, or happy with on-line PDF copies) or
Oshiro (fellow LAFer) if you are in the UK.

I'd second Ronin, the games fun, though it's a skirmish thing with a smaller number of minis (Just don't go for full peasant spam...it's both not fun to play or play against, and is entirely a thing for trolls). It's also very cheap, and the one thing you need to figure out is cavalry base sizes for it and agree to the shape of them (Free turning means issues there with people shifting them purely for advantage.

Thanks,
I’l take a look, I have Ronin.  The problem is that I have difficulty to learn new stuff or to find a solo play system/adaption. It’s maybe 10 years ago I have played and I have 2 smal forces of Dixon samurai that I want to start painting.

Hi, are you after a "big battles" set or skirmish. If the latter what about "Test of Honour" by Footsore Miniatures?

+1. The good thing about FFoL is, that you can do very small skirmish (FFoL) or bigger skirmish (FFoL: Big Battles). BTW Jaye Wiley is also a LAFer, not so „loud“ as James (Oshiro).

Hello,

You mentioned the easiest system with Warhammer Ancient and BP, I‘m afraid. Easier systems for Big battles? Maybe Warlords of Erewhon from Warlord could be easier. Rick Priestley made some list on his website I think. So, this could be one. Fields of Glory and DBMM are not easy.

More a big skirmish than a mass combat like Warhammer Ancient/Black Powder, I‘m afraid. But a brilliant set of rules

I couldn't see Ronin for solo play, as the melee mechanics require one to try to outwit his opponent on choosing whether to use a defensive or offensive strategy - hard to do playing left hand against right.  Good game system though, and I strongly recommend it for use against an opponent.
