Makers of Strong 28mm jousting lances?

Does anyone know of 28mm lances that are hard like steel and have a more knightly or jousting shape/design than a plain wire shaft?

Yes and no. "Yes" you would have to buy the early HYW miniatures from Claymore Castings to get them and "no" I doubt they would be available separately.

Those claymore minis above have your regular steel wire spears that then get inserted into the jousting guard that is molded on the figure's right arm.

If you like the Claymore approach, then your own
'hilts' can be made from small sequins or a small
ball of Miliput/Green Stuff etc.
I have even seen solder used while soldering the
wire lance in place.

Yes, was just trying to confirm that there is, as you say, nothing available separately from the minis.

It's an interesting concept, shoving wire spears through that jousting guard. Maybe it's worthwhile getting something like that cast separately.

If you mean these (Matthew Bickley sculpts):





Then yes, they're a bit late but it depends on how picky you are really. They're designed for 1346-1356 but you could stretch them forward quite easily. some of the archer packs were originally designed with Otterburn in mind so would fit and stretch to Agincourt.

It's not a bad idea. There's got to be a couple of barrel makers that will make this. Could be brass or steel.

There remain a few questions. There seem to be two basic shapes, a lance with a conical, almost spherical guard

 And another lance where the lance itself is conical at its bottom quarter with a cut-out grip for the bearer's hand like the Foundry one or this Osprey image of a renaissance gendarme:

Another question is construction, are one piece items better or would it be better to have the wide, conical guard separate?

I suppose the gendarme version would be better as a cast item because it's really about the shape of the lance itself.

Is brass better than steel?

What's the length for 28mm knights? 75mm, 80mm?

I would punch out some thin plasticard and heat it with boiling water to shape. And if you have a Dremel it would be easy to turn a bit of sprue if you were using the lance with a cut out.
