There must be a market for them, or GEG wouldn't have released them. It's a made-up game (aren't they all?) so historical precedence isn't an issue really (although there were some famous women slingin' guns in the west) and you can't pretend the hobby still has the same male-dominated focus as it did 10, 15, 20 years ago.

Don't mean we all have to like 'em or want 'em of course (I don't), any more than with any other new release, but I'm happy for those who have yearned for more female representation in their western games beyond hookers and farmer's wives.

variety is the spice of life an all' ...

struggling a bit to see why anyone would make the effort to be negative about this really.
Painted samples up thread give the impression of really nice sculpts (although the box art ain't the greatest).

Dunno that they would work for the Belle Stars. Hats seem to be wrong.

Much as I am in favour of increased gender diversity it does seem an interesting choice from a commercial point of view.

I have to admit I feel the same. Been seeing some negativity in a few places online about this set being of females. I wish that surprised me more rather just disappointing.

The argument that female representation is not profitable really irks me. Especially when Mrs. GG points out how unwelcoming the hobby can feel at times to her.

Well, I'll get at least one box.  But either it's gonna sell well for them, or it isn't. Then the folks at GEG will know how commercially viable it is/was.  In any event, I hope it sells well enough for them, as I'm looking forward to the rest of their plastic Wild West sets... :D

My reservations are, the set represents Gunfighters, there weren't that many real bloke Gunfighters, never mind female ones!
In my 'umble opinion, a set of frontier/townswomen would have made more sense commercially?

I am all for non-combatant minis, gender irrelevant. However it does seem in wargaming that companies tend to make combatant minis more often than non-combatants.

There's one very good reason for that. People will generally buy multiple packs of combatants to create their armies, warbands or whatever you want to call them in game terms which they need to play the game. They will however only buy one or two packs of civilians or not as the case maybe. Civilian miniatures are therefore just not as commercially viable. I agree they are excellent set dressing and have a part to play in some scenarios as plot objectives etc, but if you are trying to make a living out of this industry they are usually the last thing you will decide to sculpt or pay someone to design for you as they will never sell well enough to justify the initial investment.

But the "period" these rules (and most other Cowboy type rules) portray is 'Hollywood Westerns and TV series 1950-present'. :)
Female gunfighters are prevalent in that genre.
So this set is an accurate representation of that.
Very few people are using these (or the other GEG set) for historically accurate (whatever that means) games - they're doing Clint Eastwood and John Wayne and Gary Cooper or Sharon Stone, Drew Barymore or (less likely) Doris Day.

You'll have to remind me though of exactly when Queen Victoria pitched up in a frontier town carrying a shotgun if we're bothered about reality.  lol

I really like these, I don't think the box art of sprue does them justice. it's only when you see the painted examples you see how great they are.

No complaints from me.
