Artizan Dick Dastardly and chums and Indy.
« on: 06 October 2009, 07:23:49 PM »
These have been on my display cabinets shelf for a while and have never been shown. It was during a time when I was experimenting with colour, so I used the cartoon for reference. Does anyone know of a suitable Muttly?

And Indy of course needs no explanation.

Many more to follow, bloody batteries they seem to fail at the most inopportune moments.

Rather nice! Somehow, that Dick Dastardly miniature bears even more of a Terry Thomas resemblance than the original D.D. ...

Lovely work there. Someone else posted one of these the other day and I thought - 'hey! That looks just like Dick Dastardly!' - but, of course it does, if it's a 'not' DD...

The idea of Terry Thomas playing Dick Dastardly is one of those great unmade movie moments. He would have been absolutely perfect for it.

But in answer to your question, no I can't think of a suitable Muttley. Maybe a Haggis with a greenstuffed flying helmet, painted beige?

I know, nobody makes one, perhaps I'll sculpt one I've dogs a plenty, but I've one that looks like Scooby Doo and one that looks like Santas little helper. Nobody does dogs. The Terry Thomas thing, I 'll have to search for more figures that fit the bill any suggestions?

Dick Dastardly always reminded me of Prof. Fate in the movie "The Great Race". You've done an excellent job in representing him.

What kind of wire did you use for Indy's whip?

I am not familiar with this cartoon, so I don't know what the dog is supposed to look like.  However, the mother of all dog threads on Lead Adventures was probably the 2008 "Other Adventures" thread "The Duke of Nutherland's Kennel Club of Monimasket":

Maybe something in that thread would work.  If not, the search function will turn up a lot of old posts about dogs.

These are the ones he is talking - dog in the corner...

Geez, those models are right on, aren't they? Hell, they just went on my "must buy" list.

Cool figures that bring back some vague memories, mostly of the dog. But I don't remember who the good guys were.  Penelope something and ????

I remember the cartoon. As far as Terry Thomas playing Dick Dastardly, you should see the movie "Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines". His character there is about as close as it comes.

The enemy? It was a pigeon. The concept of the cartoon was to capture or kill a messenger bird. Of course all attempts were bungled by DD and his crew. Penelope Pitstop appeared in The Whacky Races cartoon along with DD and Muttly minus the other two Clump and ? . Does anyone know the name of the one in the raincoat?

The henchmen were Klunk and Zilly.

The Artizan figures have one point significantly wrong. You never, ever saw Klunk's eyes.  :)

"Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines" was what I was thinking of too, as well as "Monte Carlo or Bust", which between them more or less cover the same ground (and airspace) as "Catch the Pigeon" and "Whacky Races".
