Sabre, Sovereign and Shako Napoleonic Rules

I've just spent a pleasant hour reading Chris Walton's Blog 'World of Walton'sCrafts'. I'm looking forward to playing my first game using these rules. I was wondering if any of the Brethren have had a go with this particular ruleset?
If so... a question regarding melee. How many rounds/moves are fought before one side must retire, or is the fight to the death!? I'm thinking primarily about Cavalry charging a square, do the horseman retire if the can't break the square, first attempt? Any help or advice would be most appreciated.
